University interviews lesson
« on: April 20, 2016, 05:19:36 PM »
Hello fellow waygookin,

I had to come up with a lesson on the spot today for an extra English class of high level students. The lesson needed to be about their university applications. Thinking on my feet, I made a roleplay scenario, where half of them play the uni admissions officers and the other half, the applicants.

I massaged it a little to fill 50 minutes. Teacher's sheet and student sheet attached.

I only had a class of 6, so I had the time to ask every student for feedback on every question, which was very useful to hear their spoken English level as I hadn't taught them before.

Anyway, hope a few of you find it useful.

a similar one i've done before is put students into groups of 4.

then split this group into 2 pairs.

1 pair = interviewees
1 pair = interviewers

interviewers brainstorm good interview questions and write them down

interviewees brainstorm what questions might be asked and prepare answers

then put 1 interviewee and 1 interviewer together, and get them to do the role play

after, put both interviewees back together- get them to talk about what went well/didn't go well. why?

interviewers are put back together. they discuss each interviewee an discuss who did what well/answered which questions well. get them to choose who should get the job/who passes/why/what could be improved

put them back into groups of 4 and they discuss all together.

as a class you could ask about common mistakes and how they could be improved for next time.

it's good because it's useful for the students and doesn't require much prep
