Odd-One-Out game
« on: November 25, 2016, 06:50:56 pm »
My ellies love this one (middles too!)

It's essentially "describe a property that one person/thing has that the others don't." I have kids overstay 5+ minutes just to play it. Plan for ~5 minutes per round.

ONLY if you have them in teams, though! That's the key thing. I also give a point to kids who are not so good at English if they try. So if a kid says "Dahyun... girl." and he normally says nothing, that's as valuable as the smart kid who says "Pikahu has a tail."

Anyway, here are a few to use. Feedback is most welcome.

Holy crap -- my 5th grade after-school students ADORED this. Pretty much jumping out of their seats to raise their hand lol, including the lowest level student. And good advice to give points based on trying - really promotes all levels of students a chance to talk. Thanks for sharing Alex Teacher!! :)

Worked for me, got to press the free slow download button, but make sure you can see the file size (2.7m)posted on that page to know you're on the right download.

Thanks for sharing!

File has now expired. Think you can re-upload? I'd like to try this with my camp kids.

Thank you!

Thanks a lot Alex! For my classes, I decided to make some changes but kept your framework. I also made a little bit easier one for my lowest levels. I used it in a number of different after school classes at different schools and the results were all positive to fantastic.

The best thing about this (type of) game for me is that it is broad, can be adapted for different levels, and is all about getting students to speak whatever English they can. I am looking for other ideas for activities that are similar in these regards, so if anyone has or knows of them I would love to see. Thanks!

I have attached the versions I used in class if anyone wants to take a look.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!
