KPOP or APOP 2016
« on: December 02, 2016, 10:59:45 AM »
I am removing my games until this can get sorted.  You can find this in the new forum. ;)

My co-teacher and students loved the original Apop Vs Kpop series so they requested I make one for an English Music Concert we had.

Instead of audio answers, I included music videos since my students are mesmerized by them.

There are 19 Songs/Videos. Most of the Kpop is from the past 2-ish years and the APOP songs are ones my students are most familiar with. (Except for One Republic's 'Wherever I go'. I wanted to include it because the M/V is Korean/Company man themed.)

If you are having problems with videos playing, make sure you have quicktime installed/updated.

Or you can try

Hope you find this useful!

P.S. I'm currently making another one, so if you have any song suggestions I'm completely open to them! (I mostly have problems with APop songs students are familiar with...)

Thanks so much for making this! My students loved the other series and I'm sure they'll love this.
I downloaded the powerpoint but none of the videos or audio will play. Do you have the files I could download?

Yep! I've added a zip folder to the original link that includes all of the videos (and extras that I ended up not using). There are animations/timings to the appearance of the videos, but you can always put the video on a new slide and just bypass the animation aspect of it.

Let me know if you need anything else!

ETA: You may want to install/update Quicktime on your school computers if the videos don't work. This solved my problem when I ran into it last year. :D

Thanks! My students will like this!

By Apop you mean American pop? I changed it to 'Opop'- other pop (Adele, One Direction and Piko Taro).

The original was called APOP so I kept the name. I explained to my students at the beginning that APOP also includes music from the UK. I think the more accurate title would be EPOP (English Pop) but my students are more familiar with the term APOP so I just kept it. You can change whatever you want if it's easier for your students to comprehend.

PLEASE HELP!!

The videos always freeze when I play them. And then powerpoint freezes. My kids loved the first one which worked fine. What should I do?

Oh I'm not sure...I would say make sure PPT/Quicktime is updated...but since you're in the middle of playing it now IDK if you have time to do that.

All of the videos were created the same way and are around the same size...I'm sorry I wish I could help more.

It's not a case of it being easier for my students to comprehend, they just wouldn't see the sense in it being named inaccurately and then me explaining the inaccuracy before starting rather than just changing it, and I'd agree. But each to their own. Thanks again.

Just want to say that this powerpoint was amazing! My kids loved it and it was a fun and easy lesson to do with them. Phoebe, I am from England and I didn't care that APOP was written in the title when Adele and One Direction were included and my kids didn't even bat an eyelid when they saw it, it even has Jessie J in the picture at the very beginning and all of my students know she is a English singer and they didn't even question about it then. So keep these amazing games coming :-) Thank you :-)

This is so insanely perfect I want to give you a gift or a hug or something just for saving my tail.  My middle school kids are done with exams this week and I really don't want to bore them kiddy Christmas games so why not a music game? They will love it!!

I can't seem to find the original APOP vs. KPOP presentation that you mentioned. Do you have a link to it? I would love to check it out.

YOU ARE AWESOME!

First of all, the intro vid is amazing. Great work with that. Gets the kids worked up every time.

Since I can't download Quicktime for whatever reason, I've taken the liberty of converting all the vids to .wmv format so it will work directly in older PPT versions (I think pre-2013? maybe 2016?) without Apple Quicktime. There is quality loss due to changing the video format but I guess it's somewhat inevitable if we want it to work in older PPT versions.

I've also included a PPT with the wmv vids (in case anyone is too lazy to insert/resize, etc. the vids themselves), but it's edited with the order a little bit different from estherjoy's original.

estherjoy: If you don't mind, please put it in the first post so people don't have to go through 4 pages to get to this.

This will be perfect for my students because they've been begging me to show some music videos! Before I use it, how many points do you award for guessing correctly? 1 point? Also does this fill a whole class period (45mins)? My co's are requesting me to do a fun game for post-exam week. Should be perfect :-)

I gave 1 point per correct answer...so it breaks down with APOP/KPOP = 1 point
Artist = 1 point
Song Title = 1 Point

I reminded the students throughout the game that the only answer I REALLY want is APOP or KPOP so they don't stress out about the name and get distracted.

Oh and yes it does last around 45 minutes. I have my students write down their answers on whiteboards and give them around a minute to decide. There are 20 songs so after reading the lyrics for them and them providing the answer it's around 2 minutes per slide/selection and depending on how long you let the video run it can make it a little longer than 2 minutes per slide.

Anyways...all of that to say...unless your kids are super duper fast it will last at least 45 to 50 minutes.

Thank you for this! I enjoyed last year's game as well and was waiting for someone to make a 2016 version. I only didn't show the intro vid because I think one of the girls in one scene is flipping the camera off and I know my middle school students would just have a field day with that. But thank you! I'm definitely going to use this!
