Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone else is doing a countires themed camp, but if you are, then please feel free to browse through my stuff and use what you can. I aimed this at first grade middle schoolers but it could easily be adapted for high school. It's a little difficult so I wouldn't recomend this for very low students but then you could probably adapt it to suit your students. Each day starts with me introducing a new country, then we move onto their group project (creating a new country) and then we end with a craft activity. If you are pushed for time , just omit the craft activity. I have included more detailed lesson plans for each day but here is a quick overview:

Day 1: Introduction (fact vs opinion)
Day 2: Peru (describing terrains)
Day 3: Kenya (describing animals)
Day 4: Mexico (describing jobs)
Day 5: MOVIE DAY
Day 6: New Zealand (describing people)
Day 7: Spain (desrcibing food)
Day 8: Taiwain (hopes and dreams)
Day 9: Egypt (past tense)
Day 10: MOVIE DAY

Day 1:
Introduce the kids to my camp rules and the group project. Divide them into teams. Help them to differentiate between fact and opinion. Share stereotypes about other countires and play a customs role play game.

Day Two:Peru
Introduce Peru to the students and have them take notes, they will need these to help them complete the giant crossword. Then play a make your own adventure game. The craft activity for this day is weaving. So you will need cardboard and colourful wool. Lastly run through the terrain ppt and play a game of Where's Waldo. Finally they should work as a group to create a map for their country.

Day Three: Kenya
This is a really fun day, with silly camel races and hybrid animals. We end off by making and playing the Mancala game (note: there are so many different versions of this game that I have no idea if this is the correct way to play it). If you can't understand my instructions on the ppt then I suggest watching a youtube tutorial to help you. It's a fun game but you need to understand the basics first.

 Day four: Mexico
 Full disclosure: I was a bit ill last week and so lacking serious brain power. As a result the 'jobs' part of this lesson could really use some fleshing out. However I am pleased with the 'Mexican' part. I also have no idea how long making a pinata will take but I'm excited to try.

P.S. The odd jobs ppt is for jobs around the world that are specific to that country.

Day Six: New Zealand
I'm excited for this day because they will be doing a scavengerhunt, a board game, a picture dictation and designing Maori tattoos. It's quite a lot of printing and cutting (basic prep) but it shouldn't take too long.

Hello! This was so helpful. I made some changes to the Mexican PPT because I felt that some of the things listed there fell into the stereotype and were wrong. I want my students to understand that it goes beyond sombreros and tacos. I also included a great video about Mexico on the 1st slide. Please have a look at the PPT!!

Hey DevonTeaches, sorry for the late reply. Here are the rest of my materials. I can't seem to find the lesson plan for this day but basically its the same routine as the others. Introduce the country, then the festival and then the craft activity. For this day we made salsa which went down like a treat. We ate it with nachos and watched a video.

I can't find the lesson plan for this one either but hopefully some of these materials will be useful.The craft activity for this day is making paper lanterns. It took ages!

Day 9: Project catch up
So this day should be focused on Egypt but I used it instead to catch up and finish all the projects we started. We used this day to finish painting the pinatas, the lanterns etc. If anyone does make materials for Egypt please post them here.

Alex, you are THE BEST. Next semester I have to teach an English social club - it's two periods every Tuesday during school and I teach with a coteacher. So no after school class shenanigans. I was seriously stressing so so so much about what to do and this is absolutely perfect. I am going to adapt what you have to fit into a semester-long project and now I'm feeling really excited about it.

I just have a few questions. Do you know about how much was spent on materials for this camp? My school does not have a budget, so I would have to pay for everything myself if I wanted to do these craft projects. Second, in the first lesson, you talk about a "passport worksheet" and the PPT to explain the customs game. It's a long shot, but I'm wondering if you still have those and if so, that you could attach them here.

Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooo much for these amazing plans and resources!! You have no idea how much better I feel after finding these materials. THANKS AGAIN!!

I'm so glad my camp is being used  ;D. I have sent you a pm about the costs. It's too long to get into here but basically all the materials came to about 85 000 won. The passport page I printed 2 to a sheet. It's nothing special but it's a good filler activitiy. As for the customs game, I actually never made a ppt but just set the scene by describing it. My students really got into their roles as police officers interogating suspects which was great.
