I want to pay - but how?
« on: September 12, 2017, 01:29:52 PM »
Dear friends,

I'm happy to pay 20 bucks for access to all the stellar resources on this site.

But how?? I have free access to the lesson plan forums, but don't see any attachments? I assumed they'd still be visible and simply linked to some sort of payment portal when you click them?

I still can't believe it's only paypal..................

Like, the least intuitive thing for us in Korea.

True. But when I click the PayPal link it actually gives an option to make a once-off 'guest' transaction with a credit card? I haven't tried it yet, but I guess it'll work.

We're in Korea, there should be an option for a bank transfer. I understand Arsalan is in Canada........... but 99% of us are in Korea.

Paypal?  Not Bitcoin or Ethereum?  It's 2017 bruh, get with the program.  RIP waygook.org.

Unless you can use your Korean card online (I can't), you'll have to use your home country card.

Yeah as others have said I'd gladly pay 20 bucks for access to the LP section of this site. More for services rendered than for anything I need now. I've downloaded plenty in the past but these days I mainly create my own stuff or tweak existing material.

Waygook.org is not a necessity for me or a lot of folks. It is a fun place to kill some deskwarming time. It's fine but there are plenty of other places to go on the internet.

20$ is chump change but I won't pay anything until content creators get access to their uploaded material without paying. No negotiating that point.

PS: And wow, only paypal?! That's dumb  >:(

Even though I only have two months left in Korea I feel as though I would happily pay $20 to access the material. On the other hand I don't like the idea that the (admittedly small - but I think occasionally pretty good ;)) material I posted on here will not be shared for free - so part of me is inclined to remove it and post it to this new korshare website. Ultimately I want to go with what the majority of teachers choose - but in the chaos that followed the shock announcement it seems as though no consensus will be reached.

I think waygook before the shock announcement was definitely worth saving (and I'm pretty sure the goodwill was there), but, as many have said already, the announcement felt like a betrayal of the core principles of the site, and as such it's unclear whether what we have now is worth saving - partly because it seems like a crumbling edifice or a sinking ship - and partly because the principles of free access are not there.

I've spent a year teaching in Korea and over that time I've gathered together a reasonable amount of materials (mostly my own - but with some of the best bits coming from waygook), and for this reason I will not be hit too hard from not having access to the site. It's the new teachers who need and benefit from this site, and it's they who are being let down.

I have the same problem. I am physically unable to pay. No credit card. No paypal. Cannot use korean debit card to set up Paypal.  I have asked for an alternative. I sat back and waited. Quite frankly if Arsalan and Davey have time to give snarky remarks and close threads they have had enough time to come up with an alternative method of payment. I have spoken to 6 people who want to pay but cannot but clearly that doesn't matter. And no we dont want to "find" someone with a paypal and get them to login as us and pay etc etc . I mean get it together. Yeah people are pissed, so what? The least that can be done is for you to listen to those of us who want to pay. Quite frankly I am more pissed about that than anything else.

You really need to learn to read better, Pecan. It scares me that you are teaching small children. You must ne passing on so many of your reading issues to them. Disturbing to say the least.

You mean your Korean card can't make payments online?

I think there is some confusion because you said you can't link it to paypal. Whereas those replying are just talking about making online payments.

I cannot create a paypal account. I cannot pay online on waygook which requests my card details and does not accept them any which way from Sunday.

Other online payments work fine.

That sucks :/ Korean cards suck.

I had to use my UK one. I wonder if other people are allowed to make payments for others?

I mean, I'm sure there is someone you know with a credit card and maybe give them cash? It's shitty you would have to but at least you could get access?

Sorry, this must be frustrating for you.

I was simply trying to inform you that, though it says "Paypal" you do NOT actually need a Paypal account, NOR do you need to be "linked" to one to make the payment.
