I lost my voice - teaching / activity ideas
« on: November 20, 2017, 12:34:03 PM »
I have a very sore throat and my voice is going as the day goes on. My coteacher's response was "I'm sick too" and sits at the back of the classroom.. I don't want to just show movies or videos, I was hoping to find some activities that are still constructive for my students, and that I can flex my lesson plan into.

Any ideas?

Any ideas?
Age of students?
English level?
That would help us help you.
Off the cuff without knowing anything, I'd say self reading or writing.

Right, sorry I forgot to mention those, I thought I had posted in the middle school forum.
They are middle schoolers aged 13-15.
English level is quite mixed so I usually do activities that all levels of students can participate in.

A textbook scavenger hunt might work. Just come up with questions like "What is the picture on page 12?" or "What is the answer to number 3 on page 79?" You can even make it a competition like the first one to answer all of the questions correctly wins. It's also a decent review-type game.

Hello,
I did this and I had to do very little talking. MIddle school class with mixed levels.

. Show video without sound
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJRlD-WYplA
Cory's two friends, Larry and William, bring an animal to Cory's home.

Questions:
What animal did you see?
How does Larry feel? Happy? Sad? Worried?
What did Larry give Cory?
What was Cory doing do the turtle?
Was Larry happy or sad after Cory held the turtle?
Why was Cory happy at the end of the video?
3. Activity:
Get in groups of 3 people and write your own conversation

blank script:

Volunteers perform their versions and get rewarded.
