An Untested Game Idea - "Capture the Flag"
« on: May 11, 2011, 12:51:37 pm »
As always the students have a target language.

The class is split into two teams (or for a huge class maybe two games entirely is better?).  Team A asks a correct question of their making.  Team B must give an appropriate response.  If The question is incorrect it is then the other teams turn to ask.  If the question IS correct then Team B has to give a correct answer.  An incorrect answer sends the answering student to "jail."  A correct answer gives the student a choice: 1. send a member of the opposite team to jail or rescue a team member FROM jail.  The object of the game is to put the whole other team into jail in order to "capture the flag."

This is a "beta" thought if you will.  SOOOOO if anyone has ideas to make this idea more functional pleaseeeee shoot.

Side note:  it does seem an inherent benefit is that the kids are encouraged to make their own challenging material within the bounds of reason

Hey, I like the idea of your game, but most of my classes are 30-35 students. You would definitely have to split the class into two games otherwise there would be a lot of students just standing around.

I also like the idea of letting them come up with their own questions. Maybe even give them 10 minutes and have each student come up with one question. Might try this with my lower level classes (only 20 students) though!

perhaps theres a way to shift the game into a four team game?  (Like I said I'm kinda just putting this idea out there for refinement.) But if each clas is split into 4 to 6 teams maybe theres a way to play an elimination game.  A bit more complicated but it would involve everyone.  I'll give this some more thought
