Lesson 1.1 - Four Corners game - I found the template here on waygook but I changed the characters.  After they choose their corner, students in corner 1 say, "Hello, I'm _____."  The students in the other corners respond, "Hi ____."  Do that for all the corners and then reveal the winning corner.

Hello! If it helps anyone here is my 'chase the vocab' game to introduce the new characters to the kids in 3rd and 4th grades. Also a 'my name is game'. Both these have been taken from other threads and adapted, so thank you to the original makers.

Does anyone know if there's been a teacher's guide made for the new Daekyo book or if there's a audio CD online somewhere? I've been trying to figure out how to get access to it, but neither my coteacher nor the homeroom teacher of grade 3 seems to have it (rip...)

1.1 - Basic Vocab and Snowball Fight game

I didn't include all of the vocabulary for this lesson in the first class as I used some of the time to introduce myself and the class rules/routine etc.

Snowball Game -
1. All students get 1 piece of A4 paper
2. Have the students write them name (big) on the paper. (Korean is fine as the other kids need to be able to read it too).
3. Crumple the paper into a 'snowball'
4. Have the kids throw the paper around in a snowball fight for 1 minute.  I did stress the only rule was that they could NOT throw at someone's face. If they did, the game would end.
5. After one minute everyone picks up a piece of paper and opens it.
6. The students stand up and introduce themselves as the paper they picked up (not necessarily themselves). Like this:
First student, "Hello, I'm Jimin.'  - then Jimin would be the second student.
Jimin, 'Hello, I'm Hayoung.' Then Hayoung wuld go - etc until you go around the class.

1.2 - Full Vocabulary and 'Handshake Game'

As it says in the title. My school previously used Cheonjae, so the kids are missing the 'showtime' aspect in these new Daekyo books. I decided to make a mini-showtime so it's not really a 'game' per say but it does allow the students a certain amount of freedom to create their own 'special handshake'. I gave them 5-7 minutes to create their handshake and practice the 'script' and then asked for pairs to volunteer and show the class. Volunteers were rewarded with stamps. The kids got really into it, and sometimes they want to do their special handshakes with me in the hallway outside of class. It does help if you prepare some extra ideas to help them create if they get stuck.

1.3 - Alphabet Lotto

I didn't create this, but I also can;t remember who did. Thank you to the person who did as the kids were really into this! (The book game is maybe too low level?)

1.4 - Pokemon Greeting Game

This involves some prep-time - I advise printing and laminating all the cards (name cards and picture cards) so you can use them for each class and other grades too.

1. All the students get 1 card - either a name card of a picture card.
2. Their card must be kept SECRET
3. Students go around the class greeting each other with "Hi, I'm Pikachu. Nice to meet you." (or whichever Pokemon they have)
4. Keep greeting different people until you find your match!

Once the students match, you can give them a stamp + new cards. I find anything Pokemon goes down really well with my kids.

**This depends on class size i.e if you have 20 kids, choose 10 Pokemon to print (10 name cards + 10 picture cards). Adjust numbers as required. **

When picking Pokemon, I advise more popular ones just in case they aren't familiar with them.
(Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Snorlax, Mew, Zapdos, Pichu, Gengar, etc)
I got the kids to use the Korean names simply because it would take too much time to teach them the English ones, and isn't really useful learning for them at this stage,

The following are the games I used for this lesson, along with a PPT with just the vocab on it.  I adapted the Secret Spy Game from the snowball fight game monty0hm posted. :D  And I used the Alphabet lotto for the last class - the kids *loved* it.  Thanks a ton!

I'm also including a Fish Race I made but never used, in case any of you have time to make a couple of oragami fish and want to use it.

This is a PPT I made for online classes. It introduces the characters, the key words, has practice dialogue, and then the alphabet a through d. All with my voice over.  :lipsrsealed:  :blank: But also with some upbeat royalty free music from bensounds.com.  All of the images are from the book.

Native teachers: you can download it and delete my voice and record your voice to put in its place. My voice is on the right speaker on each slide, the music is on the left speaker on the first slide and it plays on a loop through the entire presentation.

Korean English teachers: you are welcome to use this PPT with my voice for your school.

If anyone has any good ideas for online lessons, please share them! I really didn't know what to do when my coteachers asked me for ideas, so I thought making a voice over PPT was a start, especially since we are still getting equipment to make videos. You can turn any PPT into a video by exporting it to a video, though it doesn't work on all versions of PPT. My Mac doesn't have the option to export a PPT to a mp4, but my work computer does.

Hi everyone! My coteacher wanted me to think of a lesson for period 2.  I decided to focus on Talk! Talk! on page 13 and I made a dialogue practice with the fairy-tale characters. It isn't great because the photos of the fairy-tale characters are very pixelated, but it was the best I could do today.  :blank:

The PPT reviews period one, introduces two new words for period two, and it ends with the Talk! Talk! dialogue practice. I reused some of the slides from the first PPT.

Native teachers: you can delete my voice over and record your own. My voice is the right speaker on all of the slides. The left speaker on the first slide is the music. If you want the music, don't delete that speaker!

Korean teachers: you are welcome to use this PPT with my voice at your school.

If you have any ideas for other periods, please share!
