Speaking Activities:

Card Game:
      Students get one card representing one of the six family members (try to make the number of cards per family member the same if possible).  Once the timer starts (on PPT), they find someone and both students introduce each family member (This is my mother/Nice to meet you;  This is my father/Nice to meet you).  Once both students have introduced their family members, they switch cards and go and find someone else. Students keep introducing and switching cards until the timer runs out.  Click the PPT again for the star (or stars) to come up.  The star(s) will land on certain family members, and the students who have that card will get a point.
     There are two sets of family cards;  one from a previous version of the book and one with Korean celebrities.  I have found that students will sometimes not complete the dialogue or avoid taking to other students.  Usually I make a rule that they must talk to at least 3 students (and change their card 3 times) in order to be eligible to get a point.  Also the timers are set to 30-45 seconds and depending on your class size/level, you may want to adjust it.

Family Tree:
     Students make a family tree using the cards provided.  Then they go around an introduce their families to one another.  (You can do the mill activity portion in many different ways).  Students have fun with this activity because of the different celebrities/characters they can choose from (like Pikachu as their father, Batman as grandfather).  There are two types of family cards attached:  a regular version with 12 cards and a "more" version with 24.  I have found that the 24 card version takes them a long time to do (because there are too many options), so if you are short on time I would do the 12 card version.

For part 1, I introduced the key words and phrases, did Look & Listen with them (we listened two times, and I asked the students what they heard and understood), and then we played line bingo using the picture cards from the back of the book. I explain how to play in the PPT.

For part 3, I started with a song, and then reviewed the key words and phrases (including the Sounds and Letters part). We did Read and Talk, but instead of following along in the book, I downloaded the help from the book and used that. In the PPT, I show what the students need to do for Read and Write. And then we played the matching game from the book. For some of the classes where there was still time at the end, I had them do an extra worksheet. They had to write in the missing letters, and then practice writing the words two times.

For the review period, I planned a really fun game called My Cartoon Family. Basically teams will roll a dice and tell me what number they got. The number determines who their family member is. Some family members come with points! Team with most points wins! It's the most hilarious game because of the pictures I chose

A reading game for the 3rd or 4th period. It's a group game. How to play is in the ppt notes. It went over super well.

My coteacher made an online lesson for period 3. It basically mixes the PPTs we made for periods 1 and 2, but it also has some spelling practice.

Native teachers: you can download it and delete my voice and record your voice to put in its place. My voice is on the right speaker on each slide, the music is on the left speaker on the first slide and it plays on a loop through the entire presentation.
