Hi! I have it, but only for 1st grade. We use the Christian H. Kim books for my 2nd and 3rd grade and I like them much better! I have been making all of my own lessons and borrowing from what I have taught in the past.

You are the first person I have noticed that also has this book!

I too use this book.
I find it fairly reductive at the moment, most of the target expressions seemed to be recycled from Elementary school.

I agree, my 2nd and 3rd grade books are from a different series and are much better.

I'm really struggling to come up with fun activities for the target language from this book.

Okay I'll help.  I'm on lesson 3 so I am guessing you guys are, too or will be soon.  My advice is not to limit yourself to the book, but to also expand from the book.  But if you are new to Korea and you have a strict co-teacher than it might be a good idea to talk to them before your lesson.  That way you are on the same page.  I started this lesson showing them school lunches from around the world.  I then showed them pictures of Korean food I like and I gave them the roman and hangul spellings for the dishes.  I also included an English description, so if they make a friend from overseas they can explain what the food is to their new friend.  Since this chapter covers a bit on taste and texture I expanded upon that.  I got them to interview their partner and find out what food they like and what food they don't like and why using taste and texture as an explanation.  If they presented their partner's preferences in front of the class I gave them a piece of candy.  The last few minutes I used as an English quiz game where I read out loud a riddle and they had to guess the word.  But you can also use "what's the word" activities.  If you do a google search "waygook what's the word" you'll come up with a ton of powerpoints for those.  The students love them.  Next week I will be covering how to order at a restaurant which is the speaking section of this chapter.  If you need help just send me a message or message on this forum.  I've been in Korea for a long time.

Part 1 of Lesson 3 focusing on the  listen and speak 1 section.  The slide with the menu is meant to go along with the script on part B. They insert the new foods and drink. You can have them write it but I just made them practice it with their partner and say it aloud.

I also made them create their own menu with a role play. I used the menu from a worksheet template I found so I can't upload it here as my own.

You can easily remake the sheet though. All it said was appetizer with three blank lines under it, entree with three blank lines, dessert with three blank lines and drinks with three blank lines. ex shown below. they make their food and price. Then they role play with the made up menus. one person will be the waiter and 2 people the customers.

My students are really low level and some of them are special needs so I am very happy with this book.  I just expand on it for the kids who can handle it and keep it super simple for low level kids who are the majority.

Here is some stuff I'm using for that chapter.  People have also posted material for this book on Spam.  http://Spam.jcink.net/index.php

Click on the above link and register by clicking on the button on the top left corner.  After you register this is the link for that book.  http://Spam.jcink.net/index.php?showforum=139

There are not too many lessons up for this book yet because it is brand new.

Welcome to Korea!

For the p1 game. its like a spin off of chinese whispers

i  wrote monday to friday on the board. i cut up the paper with the list of activities and put them face down. the students form a line.  the first in line is the writer. he will say "what did you do last______. The last in line has to look for the paper with the correct day then whisper it to the person in front of him until the message gets back to the writer. after the writer successfully writes it down, they continue on to the next day until the whole week is filled up.

Whoops!  Sorry Vee94.  I actually find the Spam website a bit annoying.  I think because I was logged into Spam it copied the wrong web address.  Sorry!  I didn't notice that!  Just do a google search and click the first link.

OKAY WOW. I THINK WAYGOOK and the website I'm trying to send you are at war with each other and waygook is blocking the name of the other website.   It keeps calling that website "Spam"  which is not the word I was typing on the screen.  WOW OH WOW.  You can try and PM me, but I tend to forget about waygook most of the time.  It will send you to my e-mail address and I can tell you the correct "word" that way.  WOW.  Well the other website is a direct competitor to waygook and I don't think waygook likes that because it is a lot older.  The other website is only a year old and waygook I think might be about 15 years old.  Let me see if I can pm you and find your e-mail.  This is annoying.  It might be easier if you ask some of the other foreigners in your area what went down in the last year related to waygook.  Eek!

I think you can get past most word filters by using a space or two or just inserting another character in between.

Thanks for the PM! I just realised what site you're talking about haha. I've looked at the Mirae EN section before on there but it's a bit bare bones so I was hoping this "Spam" website had a few more ideas haha... I was having a slow day XD...

I'll be sure to add some of my stuff here and on the other website when I have time to compile them nicely!

I have been using this book for the 1st grade since the 1st semester too.

I have added a few of my stuff onto the other website and will continue to do so when I have the time because hardly anybody else has.

If/When you're looking for materials, just cross reference the key expressions in your book with lessons in other books like YBM, Cheonjae etc. They usually have similar ones in different chapters. That way you can still get some things and then just edit and add to it accordingly  :azn:

The other website is called:

Just google it without the spaces and the capital letters.
