MS English listening assessment week
« on: April 09, 2018, 12:23:33 PM »
So my school (middle school. I teach MS 1 & 2) is doing their English listening assessment this week, and there are quite a few classes that I won't be teaching because of the assessment. I was just curious what you guys do during these times? I kind of don't want to start on the next lesson in the book since so many classes will miss this week's and they'll be unbalanced.

Just teach ahead with the classes you meet. There will be many weeks ahead where there will be random 1 day vacations or there will be testing days. Just keep a diary and write which page/s each class does each lesson and continue to teach them from there. Some classes will be faster and others slower on certain topics too, so your classes will get out of sync. Don't stress the small stuff.

Oh, and that listening assessment, its a national assessment held only in the 3rd period (11am - 11:20 in actuality) each day, beginning with 1st Grade tomorrow, 2nd Grade Wednesday and 3rd Grade on Thursday. You will only miss 1 period each day. So it will be potentially 1 class a day IF you have a class scheduled in 3rd period.

So, from a seasoned teacher, just teach on.
"It's better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all!"
Teach this to your students... they'll thank you for it later!

Totally agree with just teaching on.

We miss so many random days that it all evens out eventually pretty much.

I didn't keep a note last year though and literally was questioning every class where I was up to and it was such a pain trying to remember over two schools across three grades and like six classes per grade.

This time I just have a spreadsheet that I quickly update after each class and I make a note if a class was missed for any reason.

I'm currently teaching with Laryngitis so having third period to rest today is a god send lol

also cheers for the info about the test....I just got told in second period this was happening today so I'm glad to have the specifics. (my school tell me nothing)
