What Online Resource Is Your Korean Teacher Using?
« on: June 01, 2018, 02:12:31 PM »
So the native speakers usually use Waygook, but my co-teacher sometimes uses stuff that is similar to mine, but a little different than I know didn't come from Waygook. Do you know what program the Korean co-teachers use? I just got a new co-teacher and I want to help him out but not sure what to refer him to.

Elementary teachers use T Sherpa and another website.  Sometimes teachers submit games from their foreign teacher and put onto that site and some ppt's even had a waygook.org sticker at the bottom.  Some are very different though and are made for that textbook specifically.  I think if you use the YBM books, you're mostly SOL as they have the least amount of stuff for them.  One of my schools used those ones a couple of years ago.  Hard to find material for them even on here.  Worst of the worst.  Cheonje the two editions of them are the best followed by Daekyo are the best elementary books.

Middle school, I rarely see teachers use ppt's.  I make my own or take something from here and modify it.  But so many different elementary books and so many grades and so many schools that it's impossible to make your own crap entirely.  So, I take entirely from here.  Plus you must use the textbook more frequently.  So, I just use the short ppt games you get off here.  I have more freedom to deviate when I taught middle school.  Elementary use clipgrab to download youtube videos.  Find short super simple songs and grab some good ones.  Some kids love them.  I always play as a warm up before class.  Middle School, kids behave, we get through the lesson quickly (on account of their level being more advanced than the book due to all the hakwon study) and as a reward I play fun videos and have free talking about them.  Funny ads, a song, a parody, videos about food, etc.  (Elementary, I don't get that kind of freedom.)

My co-teacher doesn't use any, as far as I know. She just uses the textbook and the CD that comes with it. She's really good at explaining things to the students without giving them the answer too.

TBH, I think the YBM textbook is pretty good. We got it as our new grade 1 textbook this year. Even I haven't needed much extra materials for it, and the 2 times I have, they were easy to make. The students are understanding the meaning by the end of the lessons, able to use the English outside of class, AND they are really enjoying the lessons. Sometimes our G1 class goes through the 10min break, because they are enjoying it and want more practice.

With my grades 2 and 3, I'm not sure what book we are using. But, they often pair a good expression to focus on, but have a really terrible follow up on it. So making worksheets, and extra examples can be a nightmare at times. We end up with about 5 - 10 mins to spare, so we just do a youtube clip or something during that time. My students English is a bit lower, but they all try pretty hard during the lesson.
My co-teacher uses the full dialogue in the exams too. So I am unable to deviate from the textbook at all.

Indischool but he probably already uses it.

Lots of Korean teachers use this site too.

There's another one called 'Ice Cream' too I think? Not sure of the web address but I heard it mentioned a few times, along with indischool.
