Dice Game!

This game worked extremely well for my classes :)
It's a partner game and allows for tons of speaking practice.

Play R,P,S.. winner starts by reading dialogue A. and pointing to the item they want.
Partner answers with dialogue B. and the price of the item.

Then, dialogue A. person rolls the dice. If they get a 1,3, or 5, they get the points in the bottom right corner.. and cross out that box.
If they roll a 2,4, or 6, they don't get any points.

Then, switch roles. (A becomes B, B becomes A)

When time is up, the student with the most points is the winner.

**PPT might be a little confusing, as I use many visuals to help explain to my students.

Here is a telepathy game, a ppt introducing money and the last ppt download is like the pirate game but it is Halloween themed.

November 2020 Update:
I made an Animal Crossing Themed Telepathy Game!
Enjoy.

I got the pictures from this website if you want to choose different characters or add more slides.

For 10.1, I introduced the vocabulary under the theme of shopping. I also added an extra bit on explaining the difference between this and that.

Our activity was Dice Bingo Game.

Directions:
1. On your turn, point to an item and use the key expression: I like this ____________. How much is it?
2. The other team will answer with the price: It’s _________ won.
3. Then the team will roll the dice. If they roll 1/3/5, they get the space. If they roll 2/4/6, they don’t get the space.
4. The first team to get 4 across, diagonal, vertical wins! If no one gets Bingo, the winner is the team that colors in the most spaces.

Halloween Action Board Game (a little bit of speaking practice, but more for fun)
Use with dice or coins :)

*The file doesn't have the connecting "move forward/go back" bridges.. so you can draw those as you please.

Also, the WON key on my keyboard does not work, hence the normal w's throughout the board :)

Shopping role-play game!

This takes some preparing but it's worth it. My co-teacher speaks English and translated for me or else giving instructions on this would have been hard.

1. First have the students take out the picture cards from pg. 143-144 (soccer ball, skirt, etc) and the fake money. Have them put their name on every card so they can be returned to them.

2. Have them write a price for each item on the back of the card (soccer ball is 6000 won etc) and fill in the blank money with either 1000 or 5000. I decided not to use the change because I thought it would be hard for the students to get it returned to them.

3. Half the class is the shoppers the other half is the store owners. The shop owners make a circle and stay in the same place while the shoppers walk around.

4. The shoppers say, "I want the ____________. How much is it?" Shop owners respond, "It's __________ won." Then they exchange money.

5. Randomly call out an item (like soccer ball) after a few minutes and all the students with that item have to return their purchases to the teacher. The student with the most items wins.

6. Have the students return their cards and switch roles. Be sure to call for return items the same amount of times per round the make it fair.

My introduction / key expression and vocab practice powerpoint.  Iron Man goes shopping, celebrities and characters help practice counting money, and SpongeBob goes to Shinsaegae. Can you find him in the crowd?  ;D

Intro ppt and The Price is Right game. Both adapted from last year. Thank you to the original creators. The Price is Right game reviews previous vocab from the textbook.

Big Numbers Review -- we did a review period to practice reading and writing the numbers. Using the document I made, I explained patterns in numbers (-teens, -ty). Then we sang the Big Numbers Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0dJWfQHF8Y

Lesson Plan -- review counting, big numbers song, worksheet handout (#1-4), cowboy reading game - losers do the numbers puzzle (https://en.islcollective.com/preview/201108/b1/fun-with-numbers-crossword-fun-activities-games-oneonone-activities_8970_1.jpg).

Enjoy!

Practicing monetary numbers 'Connect 4'.

Whole class: "How much is it?"

One student: "It's _____ won."

Two teams. Works well in small classes.

I am transferring to a new place for second semester, and I believe the students will continue to study online next fall, so I made PPTs for each lesson for the rest of the book. My coteacher will also not be at my school next semester, so she won't be making any additional PPTs for the lesson. She often made other PPTs for periods 2 and 3, which I shared for the lessons in the first semester.

I made a PPT with my voice over for this lesson. I made a similar ones for previous lessons in this book, so I will write the same there that I wrote in previous posts. The music is royalty free music from  bensounds.com.

If you would like to use this PPT and record your own voice, from the first slide my voice over is the speaker on the right. You can delete those and then record your voice. On the first slide, the speaker for the music is on the left. It is set to play at the lowest volume on a loop for the entire presentation. If you want to keep the music, don't delete the left speaker on the first slide!

Korean English Teachers: you are welcome to use this PPT with my voice for your school.

If you need to change the PPT to a video, you can use the export feature to to convert it to a mp4, however, it doesn't work with all versions of Office. The version of Office must have a subscription in order to use this feature.

It turns out my coteacher did make some PPTs for online classes for the second semester, so I will post them below. I will say the same as I do for the other threads.

I added to buckybee's intro PPT posted above. It now covers counting in hundreds and thousands, big numbers (over 100,000), and a breakdown of US money denominations. I also added a practice section to get them thinking. You could swap the US money part out with other currencies depending on your nationality.

I feel like this lesson places too much focus on Korean won denominations (hundreds/thousands) considering that if you're actually using Korean won, you're going to be using Korean and not English. My CT did point out that it's good for them to know in case they ever work in a job handling money and interacting with foreigners in Korea, which is true but a bit niche I guess. Anyway, I like to emphasize foreign currency and the corresponding denominations.

Haha, your CT does make a point. I could see the pride in a young GS25 cashier's eyes as he told me my total in English. I live in a super-rural area so he was probably glad to finally put his elementary school English to work. He didn't say anything else in English lol, but he nailed the money.

But either way, it's a useful way for them to practice saying large numbers in English.
