Summer Camp: The Future
« on: June 08, 2018, 08:07:30 AM »
Hello everybody. I am hoping to get some ideas from any of you creative types, for a summer camp I have to start planning. I have chosen 'The Future' as my theme. It is only three days, and will comprise six lessons.

So far my plan is to discuss ideas about the future: where/how will we live, how will technology advance etc. Perhaps show some short video clips of future predictions - past/present.

For the final day, I thought we could make a time capsule: this will include some letters from the students, about what our lives are like now, and our predictions for the future. We can then bury that somewhere in the school grounds to be opened say in 2050.

Anyway, those were my initial thoughts. I was just curious if anyone had prepared a future camp before, and if so, could they recommend any fun lesson ideas for me?

(The camp will be for elementary school students, grades 4-6).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I'm actually preparing a summer camp which is space themed. It's pretty futuristic. One game which i've prepared is called science or science fiction. Students have to decide whether an idea is science or science fiction. Then we check the answer and I have a video for most of them. Hopefully it leads to some discussion as well. I haven't tried it out yet but students usually like this kind of thing. The file size is quite large because of the videos but you can download it from the link below. Let me know if it works ok, thanks.

Awesome, thanks.  I was having trouble with the vids, then googled that Powerpoint needs quicktime to run them...strange.  Works fine now

I had the exact same problem with the vids on my work computer. I made it on my laptop and it worked fine there though. Hope it's helpful and again if anyone finds any problems just let me know and i'll do my best to fix it :).
