Movie Quiz (Excellent if you have a free lesson)
« on: June 29, 2018, 08:29:29 AM »
I'm currently working on a space camp and made this space themed movie quiz. It took way longer than expected so I wanted to share it. It's very simple. The students watch a 2 minute clip and then answer 4 or 5 questions about the clip they just watched. There are 8 movie clips in total and the questions are multiple choice. I'm planning to use it as a group game. I divided it into two rounds and I think one round could be enough for one lesson so this should be 2 forty minute lessons worth of material here. Unfortunately the file size is quite large so I had to include a link to a google drive folder. Any feedback (good or bad) is always appreciated. Thanks!

This is excellent, thanks for sharing. I may well use with my middle school classes.

Just a note that the answer to the second MIB question (James) is shown on the screen when the multiple choice answers are shown.

Thanks! There are so many slides. It's easy to miss something. I'll take a look and try to upload a fixed version :). Let me know if anyone sees any other mistakes. Hope your students like it!

edit: Corrected version uploaded :)

I've used this with 1st Grade middle school this week and it is great. We have 40 minute lessons instead of 45 this week and the first 4 clips and questions have fitted perfectly and all the students were engaged. I only changed a couple of things (you have both spellings of the colour grey/gray in there for example) so it saved me a huge amount of time and stress. Thanks again and I hope your Space Camp goes down well.

This looks good but I can't seem to find the movie clips, are they inside the PPT or shared separately?

They should be inside the ppt and should play when the ppt is open :). Let me know if you have any issues getting the videos to work. You might need quicktime on your computer to run them :).

Off topic, but where did you get the videos? I used to use a program to download the videos from Youtube, but it doesn't work anymore.

I got them all from youtube. I just googled youtube to mp4 and there are some good sites that offer a free conversion. It doesn't always work because of copyright protection but usually in that case I just try another website.

Youtube downloaders have to be updated somewhat often, since youtube/google do obfuscation techniques to make downloading not work, especially for their protected content (paid-for or subscription-only stuff).

Also, it's possible for a video to be only available in a certain country and when you download it, you have to connect to a VPN for that place. In addition, sometimes they make changes for a video to seem (to a downloader) like it's geo-blocked when it really isn't so that they can avoid people doing downloads.

If you are having trouble playing the video clips on the ppt, you can extract the video clips by saving the ppt as a .zip file. Then you need to extract the zip files  into a separate file, all the videos will then be extracted separately and you can play them on a different media player.

Nice! Thanks for the tip! Will keep this in mind. :)

By the way, newbie here as well. Aside from being a teacher, I'm also a critter-lovin' guy. I live with my Pomeranian, Darren. Whenever I'm outdoors, I usually walk my dog in the park, though as a precaution, I'd fit him with one of those Garmin Astro GPS collars, as he tends to wander off most of the time. So, that's me. Have a nice day, everyone!

youtube-dl from github is always solid though.  Softorino has good paid software that they update to get around the sone of thr restrictions and I used a trial in the past.
