Story Telling Class Ideas??
« on: August 06, 2018, 11:33:53 AM »
Hey everyone,

I have a non-textbook based story telling class that I need to do with my grade 1 students. They a quite low level and there are approximately 22 students in the class. I am struggling (and completely brain fried after this last semester) thinking of things/ways to teach this class! I have 9 different textbooks I lesson plan from right now, so when it comes to this class I am fried to think of new things to do  :blank:

Sooo if anyone has any lessons/tips/websites/etc. that can possibly help me out that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks ;D

This is for first grade middle school students?  You could ask your school to buy you some Level 3 Dolphin Readers.  They have green covers.  Don't go below level 3 because below that it is appropriate for elementary school students in Korea, but not for middle school.  Level 4 is good for more advanced students.  I don't know your students' exact levels, but I would start with level 3.  You can buy them on gmarket or take a look at them if you can find an English book store in your area.  There is also this book called "Easy True Stories" by Sandra Heyer.  That is also a nice book with activities in it.  The Dolphin readers have tons of activities in them as well.  The Sandra Heyer book you might have to buy in a bookstore.  For some reason it is hard to order in Korea even though that book has had newer editions made of it.  It's a jewel.  I prefer Dolphin Readers though.  I just find them to be more level appropriate.  Good luck!  I hope it works out!

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll see if my CT would be willing to get workbooks for the students. Are the activities in the Dolphin Readers book more interactive or group orientated? If they are, I think I will have more of a chance in pitching the book to her ;) Also, would you get various different books or all of the same ones for each students... By the looks of it they are all titled different. Oh and yes, my students are 1st grade middle schoolers...

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm in the same situation and have no idea where to start. My CT was out for a whole semester and we're both starting this from scratch since the previous teacher did it.
