Hi fellow waygooks!
I'm an elementary school teacher and I was just informed yesterday that I will have an open class during my 3/4 after school class next week (this will be my 3rd open class this month -.-). During my after school classes I don't have a co-teacher, so it's just me with four rambunctious children (three third graders and one fourth grader). I speak a little bit of Korean, so typically if they can't understand something I'm saying in English I can translate for them--not always, but let's be honest, I utilize papago to its full extent.
During the typical after school class we start the class with a bit of phonics--the kids hate it, but I make them do it anyway because only two of them actually understand, and more practice never hurt--then I start on a new topic, because in all honesty, I basically only teach them vocab. I leave the grammar for their actual English classes, where a Korean teacher is present, because I think that would be more beneficial for them anyway. Then after learning the vocab we usually play a game or do some sort of activity to reinforce it.
Anway, for this open class the head teacher at my school wants me to write up a lesson plan, and I'm at a loss for what to do. So far we've covered most single letter phonics, so I've moved on to cvc words, but have only worked on _an and _at with them in terms of phonics. In terms of lessons we've gone over things like animals, foods, jobs, things under the sea, etc.
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
