I have several review games that I use by this time of year: any number of bomb games, Speed Quiz, Cowboy Game, Vocabulary Game, Mission Game, but I'm tired of them.
Anybody use a review game that your kids really enjoy?
Thanks!
:)
And for payback:
Vocabulary Game: (This is really good for beginners - 3rd/4th grades)
Make a list of the vocabulary from the school year. Copy onto colored paper, a different color per group. This prevents the words from getting mixed up between tables or if they fall on the floor. Cut the lists creating strips of the words and put into a container. Give each group a container. The teacher creates a list of words, expressions, sounds whatever, that the kids have to find in their tubs. I start with one word, 'name', and the groups pour the words out onto their desks and find the word 'name' and hold it up. I don't like rewarding the fastest team as there is always a fastest and slowest team, which is demoralizing for the low guys. The kids are just generally excited to find the word. I'll build the words up to about 3 or 4 depending on the group. I usually start with visual by having the words on a ppt. Then, the words on the ppt will disappear after a short time. We call it Flash Game. Then, I only say the word(s). Super easy to set up and the kids love to show what they know.
Mission Game: (For all age and ability groups)
Materials: Missions, one large die, points
Put onto strips of paper topics: 5 colors of the rainbow, 5 words that begin with s, 5 non-Korean foods etc. You get the idea.
Fold a piece of A4 color paper into lengthwise quarters. Glue a strip onto a colored paper and fold back into quarters. I use a variety of colors, except red. That's for the points. Make strips for the points. I use 1-20, plus a couple of strips for the stamps we use in class for rewards. The strips I put onto the red mission paper and fold into quarters.
Put the kids into groups of 4~6 and number the students in each group 1~4(6). Whatever the size of the group.
Instruct the students that each group will choose a mission and to wait until the teacher signals that it's time to open and read the mission. Each group reads their mission and must work cooperatively to solve the mission and practice speaking the mission. Groups have 2 minutes. The teacher rolls the die and the students with that number stand up. For example: The 4s from each group stand up. The students one by one read their mission to the class and say the answer. Once they say the answer, they come to the teacher for the point mission. They draw randomly for their points earned.
