2019 Grade 6 Daekyo 1 - 3. When Is Earth Day?
« on: March 04, 2019, 01:47:17 pm »
This lesson is similar to: 3. When Is Your Birthday? from the 2015 book.
"The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword."

Holiday quiz made by alistairrwillis that I tweaked a little.  Last question is about your birthday.  12 questions.

This is just a monthly and ordinal number intro and game. I got this ppt from another user.

At the end I added in a  simple pass the bag game. Where I will have a bag filled with the vocabulary. When the music stops students have to take a vocabulary card form the bag and read to the rest of the class. The last slide is just my music slide. Fill free to add your own music.

For the beginning of this lesson, I put together a small, slightly flawed PowerPoint (lol) to highlight the vocabulary words, review months, and read dates. I used the passing game with popular music to help them get excited about it.  The game is just passing a ball around the circle. Use the music to signal them to pass the ball then suddenly stop the music. The student  who is left with the ball after the music stops has to say the target language. It's a great way to get the students to speak and loosen up.

This includes activities that I used last year as well.
Our first class with them is their review day, thus there's no 1st - 5th period

Google drive link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qtpeyOZAszBsEvTn1ZwRUzkpZs4fB_5y?usp=sharing

The following is what I've used this year.

3.6 - Review
3 different intro ppts (month review, ordinal numbers review, words/expressions)
Bookhunt for Lesson 3

I know people haven't posted here as of late, but since I've changed schools, we're using a new textbook (from what I've used in the past).

This is for starting Lesson 3.1: When Is Earth Day?

My Lesson Plans are pretty simple, the structure is as follows:

- Greeting
- New Words worksheet (I hand out to the students) that they write the Korean interpretations while I go through the slides
- PPT of New Words and Key Phrases
- Textbook work
- Listening game (students fill in their own boxes.  If they're advanced students then they write the full sentences.  If they're not, then you can just have the students write the numbers of their answers in the boxes.  I'll print out an extra copy for myself and cut out the answers to be randomly drawn from a container by the students as I walk around the classroom.

Hope this is helpful.

Catch the Sentence for writing practice. Each section has an "easy, medium and hard" so the lower level students don't feel left behind after only one round.

On the off chance anyone wants to try to explain the origins for the names of the months here's a powerpoint I've been using for a while to give a quick crash course on the Latin names and history.

I often just go up through August and leave it there because the rest of the explanation is messy and doesn't really make sense to scholars of Roman history let alone 6th grade Korean ESL students. But the basics of "dead winter months" and the reordering around 700BC to include January and February are included.

his is for the reading time class
This is various different days around the world that you can explain to your class if the reading section runs short! I initially created it as prep for the work together section so I hope this helps! I highly suggest just embedding the video in the powerpoin (originally what I did) but the file is too big here so I've just linked the material :D

Also obviously may the fourth be with you happens on May the fourth, but I forgot to change it! Please be mindful hahahahah
