Flip Cup game that I adopted from someone else's version. The two people at the back of each group are "judges" for the next team over, and check that everyone is speaking, and correctly flipping cup. The "ten times" bit is for those who can't flip it well, they can try ten times then pass. Bonus point is awarded to a random number student who can say the answer correctly before the start of each round. Judges change with each round. But play how you want to play it, anyway.

Stars writing game is pretty self explanatory. Play solo, but change points only with someone in your group. Winner is the person with  the most points in each group.

Telling Time

Lessons part 1

I made a Connect 4 PPT game that worked awesome. Play in two groups (students can stay in their own seats, so this is great for classrooms with corona restrictions in place). Go round-robin through each group, letting a different student pick the square each round.

They have to look at the picture and time and say the right the sentence as a group using the structure "I (activity) at (time)" (e.g., I go to school at seven.).

Game works best if you play it like traditional Connect 4 where you have to start from the bottom and build up like you're playing with real pieces against gravity. My kids finished the whole game in under 5 minutes in the classes where I let them pick any square on the board to start. If you're on a time crunch and using this as a time-filler, then by all means play it that way. It can take a nice 15 minutes if you're using it as a major class activity and play it like the real game as suggested. DO NOT recommend changing to omok (Connect 5) - I guess there are not enough squares on the grid. My poor kids who trialed that idea were disappointed they couldn't win. Live and learn.

Notes for teachers are included on slide 2, to reiterate the most important function of how the gameboard works:
All squares turn blue (Team 1’s color) automatically after you answer the question and return back to the game board screen.  To turn the square yellow (mark it for Team 2), click it a second time. This will make the blue disappear.

I built in 2 extra layers, so you can change any square blue or yellow one additional time if you make a mistake when clicking. Click once to turn it blue again; twice to turn back to yellow.

I took the template for the pirates of the classroom and adapted it for this lesson.
