Slide Master Bomb Game Generator
Dawson Powell | March 2019
The Bomb Game Generator uses VBA (PowerPoint's programming language) to do all the hard work for you.

Here's all you'll need to do:
  • Drag-and-drop or copy and paste pictures onto the Edit slides. They will automatically be resized to fit.
  • Change font settings on a single slide.
  • Save sound effects and music files to a folder on your computer.
  • Run the VBA macro (PPT 2013 or newer is required for this step).
All your images, sounds, and font settings will be copied onto all the slides. No need to fiddle with animations, copy slides, or make links. Your game will automatically be saved as a PowerPoint template file, along with thumbnail images to show off what you've made (example here). You will find detailed step-by-step instructions in the PowerPoint file.

Your bomb-game will have the following standard features:
  • 26 Questions
  • One to five points
  • Five different special items
  • Prize Preview section for showing your students the prizes they can find before playing.
As well as these advanced features:
  • Easy-to-use Scoreboard Slides for between two and six teams, with buttons to instantly reset points.
  • Compatibility with PowerPoint 2007 and newer; no need to worry about the PPT 2010 reset glitch.
  • Quickly choose specific prizes for questions in just two clicks.
  • Randomly choose prizes for questions (PPT 2010 and newer).
And several ease of use features that make using your game effortless:
  • Image placeholders allow for dragging and dropping of images on the slide (PPT 2013 and newer).
  • Text placeholders allow for easily adding questions and answers.
  • Text placeholders adjust to accept multiple lines of text.
  • Question links can be returned after they disappear.

It's my hope that by reducing the learning and time barriers more people will be encouraged to make games. I also hope that this can help those already familiar with PowerPoint save time and add more features to their games.

If you encounter any problems or find the instructions difficult to follow, please message me via Facebook. I'm confident that it should work fine since I tested this on multiple computers running multiple versions of PowerPoint, but it's impossible to say that nothing can wrong.

Important Note: It is fine to add pictures and change font settings in PPT 2007 and 2010, but PPT 2013 or newer is required to run the macro.
If you don't have access to a newer version of PPT, I will help you finalize your game.
Look in the 'About' PDF in the Slide Master Bomb Game Generator for details.

This is so awesome!

Will it work well with HanCom's version of PowerPoint? Sometimes when I download a ppt game that's been made in Microsoft it either won't play properly on my school computer or breaks when I have to edit the question/answer slides in HanCom.

No, the game generator won't work with HanShow, and I don't have acess to the program to test how games made with this generator perform in it. Though they use the same *.pptx file format, there are many PowerPoint specific features and animations that third party programs like Hancom and OpenOffice don't support.

Since you're having problems with PowerPoint compatibility, a possible solution could be using a personal computer with PowerPoint on it to add questions and answers, and then using Microsoft's PowerPoint Viewer to play the files on your classroom computer(s). PowerPoint Viewer is free to download and install, but as it's name suggests, it only allows for viewing PPTs, not editing them.

Ah okay. I have tried that in the past (editing on my own laptop and playing in viewer) I've still had broken triggers, but maybe that has more to do with the ppt itself. Thank you for the help. I will definitely give this a try!

There is an annoying bug in PPT 2010 and PPT Viewer (which is based off 2010) that causes triggers and animations to reset after linking between two or more slides.

If a file is giving you this problem I'd suggest trying to use PPT Viewer 2007. This may not be a great solution though because it can run slowly and have problems playing audio.

I figured out a way to structure games to get around the glitch, but it's likely the files you were using before didn't take that bug in consideration.

The fix I created for this is really complicated. Part of the reason I created this generator was to let people make games without having to worry about it. All of my games and any games created with this generator won't have that problem. Of course none of this would be a problem if Microsoft released a newer version of PPT Viewer, but that's not going to happen. :-[

Thanks so much for posting this, It will definitely save me some time! I appreciate it more than you know!!!! >___< <3

I am not the greatest at PowerPoint, I can do the basics and that's about it. My CT and I are doing a Moana-themed summer camp and I wanted our bomb game to go with the theme. I used this to create it and it was sooooooo easy. Thank you so much! <3
