Warm Up Music
« on: April 03, 2019, 11:39:54 am »
Hi everyone, I wanted some opinions. I want to have my after school class (grade 5 and 6) to warm up every lesson with a song. I wanted the song to be in Korean and we do the warm up by translating the song into English section by section. I would like to use a K-pop song but I have seen a lot of lyrics that aren't school friendly or the message of the song is too mature or just too obscure when translated and sung in English. I also looked up English songs that have been translated into Korean but that got tricky as well. Any song suggestions? Or any other warm up suggestions? They hate tongue twisters (I tried)...but they really seem into the K-pop song warm up. Thanks!

If you really want to include the kpop as a warm up you can translate only a verse or the chorus or even just a small portion of either of these rather than a whole song into English together. An example: this may just be the BTS fan in me speaking, but a lot of my students like the song I'm fine. The chorus for that song repeats the phrase "I'm feeling just fine" so you could work with that. They also have another song called Love Myself (a nicer message you could work with". Alternatively I've done the whole APOP KPOP guessing activity and its always been a hit. You can look at one or two songs at the beginning of class for fun. You start by showing them the English translation of a popular KPOP song (or the actual lyrics of a popular English songs) and have them read it then work together to try and figure out if this song is a kpop song or an apop song.

Songs you should choose from English songs with more reasonable melodies and sounds. Here is my opinion for you.
Reference and download free phone ringtones at klingelton website which offers varied and completely free ringtones.

last year my KT did that and used the following songs:
One direction "what makes you beautiful"
Shakira "Try everything"
Naomi Scott "speechless"
Sarah MacLachan "Blackbird"

I think she has special software to do it, idk.

hmmmm idk about Korean to English but my Cot gives our students English songs (usually Disney stuff) and has them translate it into Korean. And then they practice singing the song in English.
