Can you tell me DOB

What age are you looking for?

I should remind you that teaching skills only increase with experience and age, that no teacher is handicapped by being over the age of 40, and that youthfulness and appearance is irrelevant to a teachers ability.

I feel violated by all these intimate questions, Ms Yun, please send me your half length photography equipment to guesstimate your average BMI  and skin elasticity as to ascertain how indignant my facial expression needs to be. Also, I would like to leer profusely over them so appropriate attire need at here.

Thx. for your swift acquiescence. :undecided:

I sometimes think that the recruiters are actually more discriminatory than the hagwons themselves! The recruiters remember a few hagwon clients that were insanely discriminatory, and then discriminate against everyone in order to cover all bases, and appease their worst customers.

I remember teaching at a hagwon and thinking that all the other teachers were beautiful Korean women. It made me wonder if I had also been hired on the basis of good looks.  ;D

This happened ages ago.
An Ex-CT asked me if South Africans can speak English... This was the 3rd time I'd been asked this question and she was being rather condescending.

I replied by asking her what she majored in at University, she replied English.
I asked her at what age she began studying English. "Around the 4th grade." she replied.
I asked her if she attended English hagwons, she did, for a number of years.

I then asked her what type of English education she received if, after 8yrs of English education at schools and hagwons, as well as 4yrs studying for a university degree to teach English, she wasn't aware that South Africa is home to a few million native English speakers.

Sadly, I just got that unnecessary laugh and a confused look I'm all too familiar with. You know, that one where whatever you've said has gone completely over the person's head and they're trying to mask their befuddlement and possible anxiety with a forced laugh.

Yun, may your inbox be filled with applicants comprised of incompetent, inebriated frat boys.

I don’t think the currency and salary section of your website has been updated since pre-2010.

800 won for a subway journey? 1900 won base fare for a taxi? 4500 for a large big Mac meal??? 1600 won for a beer bottle?

Those days sound golden

And the Irish. Maybe he's with this school of thought.

Though it's probably more likely he just doesn't know it's a separate country.

To be fair, the white south African population is half comprised of afrikaaners for whom English is not their mother tongue. Some of these barely speak the language. They speak afriks at home, at work, in their leisure time.
Catch my drift?

This is true, unfortunately. Not to mention native speakers of the other 9 national languages of South Africa. They've all tried to jump on the ESL bandwagon in Korea, with varying degrees of success. Public schools have it right though - provide evidence of English schooling or GTFO. No need to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

English speaking saffas should unite against this blatant discrimination. I can't tell you how many times I've perused the job boards over at Dave's ESL and seen 'regrettably, no South Africans'. Or something to that effect.

You taking notes, Ms. Yun?
