Starting this chapter next week. Looks tough to adapt.

Key phrase is "I'm not happy with..."

The two examples in the videos of the first part are with a puppy that tears up Minsol's homework, and a girl calling customer service because her new hairdryer doesn't work well.

So, I'm going to focus on making complaints.

Add "I'm annoyed when/it annoys me when" "It bothers me when."

Not sure what kind of activity would work best with this kind of focus.

I have been struggling somewhat with this theme. I made a short vocab list. I'll post if it helps. Every time we have class I try pick up a word or two the kids ask about and add it.
I haven't yet done the project in my ppt, and I may still change it. The whole idea for it was that students will make a poster about something they do not like, possibly about themselves, (for example: I don't exercise enough), and then add an affirmation telling them not to forget to whatever. (Hence the word Affirmation in my vocab, it's a little hard to explain, hence possibly changing the activity.
I did have them fill in their own customer service forms (basically the same one from the book), they had to make up something they bought, received, or used at the given location (underneath the form). I told them to use a fake number, and just write what they could. I got some great replies, however my co-teacher let them use their phones to translate in class, which I thought was a bit counterproductive, but his call I guess.

I also started my PPT with some slides showing different types of near and dear relationships. What could be near and dear. (ie: a person, a pet, a thing etc.), just as a sort of intro.

Anyway, it's not great but I hope it helps in some way:

I also am starting this chapter next week. Not a whole lot as far as ideas but I have to teach 4 classes on the lesson. So My first-second days I was going to focus on the complaining aspect of it. I found one activity where you can make cards with different pictures and complaints and divide them between the students and have them make short dialogues based on them. Kind of short on ideas for other activities though....

The second two classes are focusing on "I'm going to..." as well as "Don't forget..." right...so the kids could do something where we are planning a trip to the moon or the dessert, whatever..and they have to brainstorm what they will do/ shouldn't forget to do, etc.... and maybe draw a picture or poster and then share with the class...

Any ideas for activities would be greatly appreciated....this book is so hard to teach...

Thank you seltow for your amazing PPT, and I can't wait to make the affirmation posters in my class!

I went with a focus on annoying things.

I adapted a ppt that I found somewhere on this website, forgot who originally posted it.

My plan went like this.

1. Class greetings and review of the previous clothing lesson. I will ask students to describe what I'm wearing,
what the Korean teacher is wearing, and what 1 random student is wearing.   This should take about 5 minutes.

2. We will do pages 114-116 in the book. This should take about 20-25 minutes.

3. Show a short ppt about various complaints and how to make them.
"I'm not happy with/when..." "It annoys me when..." "It bothers me when...."

Then play a card game. Each student gets 7 cards.
The card has a picture with a complaint and a request.
For example "there's a fly in my soup!" & "please give me a new bowl"

The students move around the class, and when they meet do a dialogue.

  A: I’m not happy with ____________.

  B: What’s the problem?

 A: ________________.

  B: I’m so sorry.

 A: Please ________________.

Then the students do rock paper scissors. The winner takes a card from the loser.

The student with the most card at the end of class wins the game.

That should take up 10-15 minutes and the rest of the class. If there is any time left over, we do Rap Time.

---------------------

I've taught two classes so far. The students run out of cards quickly, so I'm adding more, increasing it from the original five to seven per person.  Got to closely monitor them to make sure they're doing the dialogue and not just playing rock paper scissors.
