A vocab review  and survey form students fill out. First they fill out the prices of the four items at the bottom, then walk around asking others "How much are the...?"
And a sleeping minions game I modified  for the new textbook.

Where's the PPT?

It's not a PPT game. It's a game on YouTube. Simply play the video in class and pause to give your students time to answer.

An intro, minesweeper game & telepathy game.

Intro: Pretty self explanatory. (Ideal for the first period)

Minesweeper game: Grid based sentence making game. Students ask "How much are the _____?" And respond "They're ____ dollars." (Ideal for the second period)

Halloween themed Telepathy game: Instructions included in the PPT, also uploading a worksheet to go along with it if you need it. Hopefully you don't have a bunch of big babies in your class as this game is downright spooky! LOL jk  (Ideal for the fifth period)
"Have you seen what the sith are wearing? It's like every fashion designer in the galaxy went over to the dark side."

I adapted a Chicken Cha Cha game from my school's old book. Thank you to whomever made the original game.

Chicken Cha Cha is a memory game. The students play in a group, we usually have somewhere between 4 to 6 in a group. They place the eggs in a circle face up on their desks. The tiles are face down in the middle of the circle. Each player puts the chicken on the egg that is closest to them. The group plays rock, scissors, paper to see who is first, and then after they move clockwise. They also move the chickens clockwise as they play the game. They must match the egg with the tile to move forward. If they move forward by jumping over another chicken, they take the other chicken's feather. We put tape on the back of the Angry Bird's and use a pom-pom for the feather.

The official way to play this game is if a match is made and the chicken moves, the player keeps playing until they can't make a match. The player who gets all of the feathers wins and the game is over. My co-teachers prefer each student gets a turn, even if the chicken moves, and then going on the next player. For time purposes, in class the player with the most feathers at the end of class wins.

This game requires a lot of prep. I made six copies for my class and I laminated everything. It took a long time! I think the official game is two sets of eggs for each tile, with 36 eggs and tiles total. I have made that many copies before, but the game ended up taking up a lot of space on the desks, even with four or five desks together, so now I just have one egg for each tile. I put navy blue slides for the tiles, so print the navy blue side on the back of the tile slides.

I think that is about it. I have played the game with a few classes and we didn't find any mistakes. I am also attaching the official description of the game, but as I explained above, we modify the game and the game play a bit to suit our class.

I show this one minute video before we explain the game to give the students an idea of how to play, even if they don't understand what is being said in the video.

Enjoy!

Activities for Lesson 8. Most, if not all, of these materials are borrowed and modified/updated from other sources. Credit to owners.

- Quizzes students on money around the world.
- Reviews "dollar" and "cent" and numbers (including large numbers)
- Teaches the name of coins in the U.S. (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)

- The Price is Right (students guess the price in USD of products)

Ajumma Attack (posted above^^ - credit to owner)
- Students play in teams to buy products but avoiding the Ajumma's. Coteacher and students loved this game!

Cat Shopping Video

I am transferring to a new place for second semester, and I believe the students will continue to study online next fall, so I made PPTs for each lesson for the rest of the book.

I made two PPTs with my voice over for this lesson. I made a similar ones for previous lessons in this book, so I will write the same there that I wrote in previous posts. The PPTs are from the book's website (I think my coteacher downloaded them off of the company's website last year) and I recorded my voice over the slides. The music is royalty free music from  bensounds.com.

If you would like to use this PPT and record your own voice, from the first slide my voice over is the speaker on the right. You can delete those and then record your voice. On the first slide, the speaker for the music is on the left. It is set to play at the lowest volume on a loop for the entire presentation. If you want to keep the music, don't delete the left speaker on the first slide!

Korean English Teachers: you are welcome to use this PPT with my voice for your school.

If you need to change the PPT to a video, you can use the export feature to to convert it to a mp4, however, it doesn't work with all versions of Office. The version of Office must have a subscription in order to use this feature.

Mad props to the folks who made and modified the ajumma attack game. I made some modifications to make it an individual game rather than a team game.

I have also added a speaking and reading game that is pretty fun. Thanks to the 5.8.1 vocab creator for the pictures.

Hi,

I made two games for this chapter today, I'm not a graphic designer so they are very simple in layout haha. They are designed with a small 5th grade class in mind so you may need to edit or change some things to make it work for your group. Definitely the pass the ball game would need to be lengthened!

1) Coupang game - The students will look at an item and estimate how much it is (like "the price is right"). The teacher will ask each student (group if you have a bigger group) "How much are the ___" and the students will answer "They are ____원" Closest to the pin wins. There's an answer sheet to go with this game also attached. Depending on the students English level they may or may not be able to say the big numbers so in my case I allowed them to say them in Korean in the format "They are {korean number}"

2) pass the ball - its a pass the ball game where the teacher asks "how much are the ___" or "What size do you want?" and the students answer. We did clapping around the room instead of passing the ball for covid safety. It worked well even so. Poo is instant out. :)
