Lesson Plan Dump
« on: September 27, 2019, 01:50:10 am »
Hi all! In my time I've taken lots of lesson plans from here and thought I ought to give some back now that I'm finishing teaching. I don't intend to upload any lessons that I downloaded from here originally, but will be uploading some that I changed and made my own. I taught in China so keep an eye out for any Chinese translations you'll need to replace, but they should be few and far between.

A lesson based on the superfight card game. Groups choose a set of numbers at random and that's their superhero. I let them choose one of their 2 superheros and super powers, but you can let them choose 1 number and they're stuck with it to save time. Then debate which would be stronger. I did it in brackets, for example if there are 6 groups, groups 1 and 2 fight first, then 3 and 4, then 5 and 6, then all the winners fight in a three way battle. Depends on time though, you can arrange it any way.

Family Feud

Here's a game I made based on the TV show Family Feud. There are 2 PPTs in the folder; the way I did it was I put PPT 2, which has the answers, on my phone so I could check how many points each answer was worth. It's a fun lesson, and you can change the questions to fit any vocab areas you have been studying recently.

Here's a lesson about compliments and insults that ends in a game inspired by the game 'insult simulator'. The basic idea is there are 2 teams, you can do boys vs girls or left side vs right side. Teams take it in turns to start an insult, then the words they choose are taken from the board. The other team cannot say words that have already been said. Write the insults on the board as the teams come up with them. Then, the other team starts an insult. Take it in turns choosing words until the teams choose to stop, then let the teams read it out together, even if it doesn't make sense! Give points /10 for meanness, volume, and grammar.

It's a good exercise in sentence structure, if they write themselves into a corner and need, for example, a noun when there are no nouns left, I finish their sentence by writing on the board .....umm.....err... ...

Mars One

Space themed lesson here, about achievements. The activity at the end is a debate about who should be taken on a mission to Mars. Feel free to add a photo of yourself, the more embarrassing the better.

Sound Words

This lesson is an excuse to impress them with some difficult spelling. It's all about onomatopoeia! I brought a couple of sweets in as a prize if anyone could write it correctly on the board. It's a very unusual listening test. Students just have to spell what they hear, except instead of words, the sounds are all sound effects. I just wanted to make the students aware that cultural things like gestures and sounds are expressed differently in other languages. There was some time at the end, which I used to make a quick comic.

Hopes and Wishes

My students have a pretty consistent problem differentiating hope and wish, in chinese it's the same word which explains it though I don't know if korean students have the same problem. It's somewhat christmas themed because we studied it near christmas, right before we organied a secret santa; while writing down what he hoped to get, of course!

Travel Agents

This lesson is a bit of an excuse for a video lesson. We saw some exotic places around the world and thought about how to describe them in a positive way, like a travel agent would. Even if the places seem really bad! At the end, switch Shenyang for whatever city your school is in.
