I'm not even Canadian and I think the guy is a master and appreciate what he did. ...one reply? Really?
I have not forgotten, nor will I ever. I had the pleasure of seeing Gretzky play in the Quebec City PeeWee hockey tournament which takes place every year during the greatest winter carnival on earth. Nonetheless, Gretzky was playing with Brantford in the 1974 tournament and scored 26 goals! He was a superstar then. I also saw Gretzky play with the Indianapolis Racers and the Oilers in the WHA and of course the Oilers in the NHL. In my opinion, the 2nd greatest player to ever play the game. The greatest...#4 Bobby Orr, whom I also had the pleasure of seeing several times. I love the Bruins, especially when they destroy those filthy stinking Habs: 8-1 and 3-1 recently hahahahahaha The Bruins had a great game 2-0 over the 'Canes yesterday. I watch the games on VIP Box Sports free streaming. I just give the students a bunch of worksheets and watch the game on my computer in class. Nice!Is there any other game that compares to the NHL? Anything??? Anywhere???

There's been 12 different Stanley Cup champion teams since 2000, and one season was cancelled due to a lockout - 2005. That's what makes it the greatest game in the world, there is no super dominant team. Name another sport which routinely has 4-5-6 or 7 minutes of non-stop hard-hitting end-to-end action and full speed. Certainly not rugby or football or baseball or basketball...as for soccer, it's a great cure for insomnia. Nope, the NHL rules uber alles.
Also, it's a rich person's sport: to play at any non-casual level, you need to buy like a gazillion won worth of gear just to participate. That's a pretty big draw back, imho.I'll agree that it's pretty fast-paced.

As a Canadian, one sport which hasn't been mentioned which involves incredible skill is curling. If you ain't ever tried it, do so. It's an amazing game.

Most people don't understand the level of strategy and skill that goes into each play. Wish it got the love it deserves.
