Transferring from Seoul To Gyeongsando or Jeollado
« on: April 27, 2020, 09:26:19 am »
I've been in Seoul for 8 years now, and I'm planning on staying in Korea for at least another 4. I'm thinking about trying something new. (Seven year itch?) There are some places I really like in both Gyeonsando and Jeollado.

If transferring to another MOE, do I have much of a choice where I'm located? Can I request a certain area, city, school?

Thanks. Just doing some ground work first before I make any hard decisions.

:)

You need to reapply through a recruiter, but you may be able to get the needed paperwork certified copied from your current education office. I recommend Canadian Connections for Jeolla.

Hi
When I transferred provinces (a number of years ago) I was told that I was already with EPIK I should go directly through EPIK - and not with a recruiter.  Is the Seoul programme the same as EPIK?  Maybe try going direct first?  Of course things may have changed since then.

Gyeongnam allows you to choose your locations (rural and cities) and you can mention preferred grade level during interview.  It's likely you will get it but nothing is  ever guaranteed.   I believe this policy  is applicable to Jeollanamdo as well.   POEs assign NETs according to their needs  which trump personal preferences.

Your chances of getting your preferred location  might be higher in these provinces (since they mostly do their own hiring) but again, specifics are never guaranteed.

Best of luck!

Super helpful! Thanks for all the info!

I was actually a SMOE direct hire, and therefore, didn't go through a recruiter like EPIK.

It's good to know about choices as I really only want to make the move if I can get reasonably close to the areas I'd like to settle for my remaining time in Korea.

:)

Canadian Connections recruits directly for JLP, and the GOE takes applications directly, last I knew. I suggest applying this way, you get priority when not hired through EPIK.

Eh... this is not guaranteed so keep that in mine. I got my 5th choice and in my interview, I was adamant that I didn't want to teach middle or high school but got middle school anyway. It was hell, ngl. Now, I'm heading north to a hagwon where you can actually choose your grade level and location.

Sure, I will.  After you take a viagra, relieve some stress and stop cyberbullying. Get a life. Out of respect for OP, I won't waste any more of my time on you.
