Tabletop Gaming
« on: May 15, 2020, 04:59:05 pm »
Tabletop gaming has EXPLODED in the last few years, with stalwarts such as Magic: the Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, and Warhammer 40k as popular as ever, and then some!

What tabletop games are you guys playing? I'm all about Necromunda and the Lord of the Rings LCG (true solo) these days.

Yoo Melnoth!

I have recently (within the last 6 months) been getting into D&D with some friends, really enjoying it now that I've got the hang of it (was a bit awkward at first as I was too stuck in 'computer game mode', didn't realise the extent of the freedom you have as a player when it comes to decision making in D&D).

I was also a big Warhammer fan (and then WH40K fan) in my youth and still enjoy the PC games now and then (the old Dawn of War strat games were great fun). Planning on building up a small ~1000pt force again when I'm back in the UK. Do you play here in Korea? If so, do you know any places that stock Warhammer models / paints?

Not really into tabletop, but I do have a few boardgames. My absolute favourite for years has been Kingdom Death. I haven't played in a while as I have so many other things on my plate, but as soon as my postgrad is done, I'll be breaking it out.

KD has everything I look for in a boardgame, though it's not for everyone... it's brutal and glorious.

I've been a part of an online DnD group for a while now that meets on Tuesdays. Also board game regularly. Currently been playing through Betrayal legacy and my friends and I are about half way through the legacy campaign.

Haven't played tabletop games in a while but, I'd be interested in trying DnD.
Ultimate 1 night werewolf is a lot of fun too, with a decent sized group.

Nice constructive comment there 'theman', thanks for the contribution. If you could make a separate thread with a list of acceptable hobbies and interests that'd be great, I'd love to check it out  :afro:

Oh, wow, was your masculinity threatened by a developing society in which activities, once considered the epitome of stereotyped nerdom, are more mainstream and you aren't getting to participate?

Before coming to Korea, I was in a great online DnD group with friends. Unfortunately, the time difference made it too hard for me to keep up with so I had to leave the campaign. Now the only fix I can get is through watching Critical Role

For those who play / have played DnD - is it possible to make mind controlling poisons? :O
I thought it was fueled by imagination and rolls of the dice. But, I've never played; I got given a 550GB PDF of the rules, but don't really want to read all of that haha.

I'm definitely not an expert but, as far as I know, you can only use spells for mind control. However, some DMs might allow a player to homebrew mind control poisons if they don't exist already.

If nothing else, roll high enough on persuasion or intimidation and make people do what you want that way.

Sweet. I've been thinking of wanting to play a rogue that specializes in poisons. And I want to try use said poisons to mind control creatures, including dragons, and stuff. Like, for example, first trying to capture a dragon, to use for experiments, and slowly build my character into some crazy scientist like rogue haha. But, also doing the capture thing for all other creatures, so I'm not making a super OP character from the go.

Sounds like an awesome character! Some DMs might be against it, but if you discuss your character and plans ahead of time, I think most would at least suggest alternatives. They might suggest multiclassing or having your character experiment over time, trying to invent the potion. In my experience, most DMs like to throw in as many interesting curve-balls as they can, so the idea might intrigue them.

Yeah, for me it would be built up over a long time. I'd expect him to start off weak, and rely on the other team members to help him build up, but after like -a long time- eventually get crazy OP like, perma mind controlling world ending threats via poison - as long as it isn't immune or something to poisons.
But, I've never played DnD so wasn't sure how feasible it might be.
Thanks! :D
