Inheritance aside (I suddenly received much more than that but my dad had suddenly passed away, so obligations were skewed to family expectations: I bought a vehicle firstly because my father always said wheels were his legs and he constantly asked me when i was gonna get a car, his generation of man had to have one it seemed.

So, like, 20 thou in a lottery thanks to a gifted ticket that won? Hmmm...

#1 PLAN:

 I would upgrade my Christmas hamper and donation spree. Usually I give away 100,000 won in 10,000 won envelopes and another in two 50,000 won bill envelopes. I go to the 5-day market and find the oldest and/or poorest and/or physically handicapped old streetside sellers in this small town (rarely it's a man). All envelopes look the same. The two big amounts i reserve for those who appear to need it most. I move quickly, hand one out, say Merry Christmas and quickly move on, not lingering, not fielding questions or nearby interest. I couldn't care less about Xmas but it's winter and cold and i wanna help and it makes me feel good.

So,....

10,000,000 won to society would mean for me two one million won envelopes and sixteen five hundred thou envelopes. I'd go by car, stopping frequently, eyeing up the cardboard and bottle collecting elderly poorly dressed, going out to nearby smaller towns, especially keen on seeing a rural mom with young child. The key as always will be to keep going after giving and saying Merry Xmas. But since the sum is so much more i'll feel all the more compelled to move quickly to get away from there, and to wear a mask, perhaps with christmas decorations on it to let them be able to process accepting such a sum from a stranger.

18 people will be happier that day. :)

#2 PLAN

The other ten thousand i'd spend on a trip to Europe. One month in Budapest ought to do it, with a few day jaunts around Hungary. It's where the paternal side of my family comes from.

Seriously, half towards financing a house and the other half towards my sisters' university fees.

$8500 towards paying back my 전세 loan.
$1000 for a necklace for my partner
$500 for a stupid fancy dinner out that I would never normally buy.
$10,000 given to elderly recycling collectors in 100,000 won increments in neighbourhoods that have been recently or will be soon redeveloped.

With my 10k, pay off the last of my credit card and put most of the rest towards student loans. (Probably put 1k or so aside to send my grandpa to Europe on vacation)
The other 10k, I'd either donate to one of the charities for the homeless back home (likely the family shelter).

Anyway, if I were to accept the terms of the arrangement, boringly my own $10k towards tuition and loan payments.

And I’m far too simple-minded to use $10k to effectively help others, so I would probably hand it off to a Bill Gates or a Mark Zuckerberg and just ask them to ensure that it go to a good cause.
