Public school teachers, are you doing a summer camp?
« on: July 06, 2020, 06:12:01 pm »
School vacation has been cut to two weeks for most of us, but a lot of NETs have spoken of being assigned English camps during this time.

Earlier there was speculation English camps wouldn't happen, as going until January without a break would be too cruel to the foreign teacher and students.

But many NETs have already heard about their upcoming camp.

Some online.

Some in person.

Seems like English camps aren't being cancelled for the most part.

Hi
I have a really long summer vacation (due to earthquake strengthening construction) and zero winter vacation (1 week spring vacation).  So I am doing 2 weeks of online camp during summer.

3 Weeks of school vacation, 1 week of camp (4 hours a day) 2 weeks of my vacation.
Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

I asked and my school is not having summer camp. I am beyond words grateful. I can't imagine even doing an online camp right now.

I'm doing camp. I was told I have to do 4 hours online via Google Meet and have to keep students online the whole time.
I've been trying to come up with ideas for camp, but my school has said no to everything. So I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do.

My school has 3 weeks of summer vacation, 1 of which will be my camp. SMOE asked teachers to do 3-4 weeks of camp this year, instead of the usual 4-5. Due to the amount of vacation I have, I'll be doing 2 weeks in winter, instead of 3.

I was also given the option to have the camp in-person, online, or by phone. I chose in-person, because I already had some social distancing-friendly materials prepared, and my camps don't tend to be overcrowded anyway (small school).

My co-teacher told me there's no summer camp a few days ago. God I'm stoked. Just hope they don't change their minds.

My school isn't doing a camp. My students are only back very part-time. There is no way a camp would have worked out. They said there isn't budget for it anyway.

My school went from planning a two week camp over our two week vacation.  When I objected it was quickly changed to one week.  Yesterday after setting up the camp and printing all the materials for the week my school cancelled camp completely.

Why was the camp cancelled?

Not really sure of the explanation, but from what I could gather a couple of students in Seongnam (not where I live or work) got sick and another teacher said she suspected the parents objected.  It wasn't made clear.  I just gathered up the camp handouts and schedule and crossed out summer and wrote winter and said OK.

I have 3 camps, 1 for each of my 3 schools. First camp this Saturday for 6 hours, 10 kids.

2 weeks vacation. First week Mon.-Thurs. camp for my main school. Friday - camp for my rural school. Then I get a week off.

I had 2 days online for my main school, 3 days for my second. They were going to be in the same week, which would've been sweet, but then my second school decided they had to move their camp to the next week.

and then 2 weeks summer vacation.

Jesus.

Seriously.. I'm already not a huge fan a talking on the phone. Even if they were some of my brightest and wonderful 5th/6th graders, not sure how well and how long we could keep up a phone conversation. Probably quite a bit of awkward silence.
