What's Your Area of Expertise? :)
« on: July 15, 2020, 11:01:21 am »
Aside from teaching, what are you really good at?

What are your "things"? I'm curious of what people do on the side of teaching here. :)

I make shitty videos:

Having a kid pretty put an end to that, though. So these days I'm an expert at pursuing my other hobby (guitar) while dodging my wife's psychological attacks.

Fully qualified tradesman, designer and installer. Expert at it but pretty grim sometimes. Decent money maker if thats what you're after.
Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

Colburnnn: Complains a lot, very sassy. Has a loudmouth.

Those were great! :D Actually, my major was video production, and I had a job as a motion graphics artist and editor. I bought a Xt3, but i'm just not so great at capturing good shit. I feel too awkward pointing a camera at strangers lolol. But editing is my thing. :) Again though, solid videos.

Edit: My hobby these days is getting into streaming and working on becoming a top 500 Overwatch player here in SKorea. :)

Nice, I had an X-T3 for a while. Image quality was so good, but lack of internal stabilization killed it for me. X-T4 would be perfect, but I've already spent all my money on guitars (and diapers lol)

i think i have a really high bar for what "really good" means. i wouldn't consider myself an expert or "really good" at anything (including teaching). i'm still learning, yo! that all said, outside of teaching i go to the gym 4x a week, skateboard 2x a week (and play video games almost every single day  )

Hobbies that I practice a lot and hope I (am / will be) good at: writing novels and kickboxing

I also took a sewing class throughout all of my schooling pretty much, and occasionally break out the machine to make something. Not sure of my skill level now, but I made my own Halloween costume one year in high school.

dodging my wife's psychological attacks.

For real tho. Yesterday my wife got upset with me because she accidentally used my (green) toothbrush instead of her (orange) one. Kids and pregnancy put a real strain on marriages and married people! Stuff like that though, not really sure how to respond but hope that the mood passes swiftly.

I run and f**k around on the Internet.

I used to think this was a truism. But now I understand what it really means.

My husband seems to think kids will save a marriage....he was talking about how so and so friend needed to have kids to save their marriage and that marriages without kids are pointless.....I said kids are wonderful but they do cause a lot of stress and tension for many different reasons, including the wife maybe feeling like she has to do everything or that people only care about the baby....or the husband feeling left out etc....we don't have kids and apparently it's a problem lol

I  like to paint people with henna, I draw, do yoga. I fancy vintage clothes and shopping for them here. Some of the prints on these dresses are slaying me!

I'm crap at teaching and I have too many hobbies.

If I were to narrow my best skills down I'd say they're my musicianship, without any ego I can say I'm a pretty decent guitarist, ok at piano and I'm getting into organ stuff (While for a short time, I played and taught professionally before coming to Korea). Tied with that, I've always enjoyed being athletic and have been somewhat gifted in that regard; surfing has always been my love, but since I'm in one of crappiest countries for surfing, so that took a backseat for tennis (tennis partners left Korea) so I've been doing sprinting these last few years. Luckily, there's a stadium near my house, which few people go to. I only have to tolerate the occasional asshole ajjushi, who doesn't seem to enjoy the sight of someone enjoying themselves by doing something unusual.

I always look up to people whose skills and passion coincide with their livelihood, I've never been able to figure that out.

Depends on your definition of saving. Having kids might shackle people together out of sheer necessity, but that's about it.

I guess he means love each other more, or maybe save the people from the stress of everyone asking when they are going to have a kid......appreciate each other more? I don't really know because he didn't explain and I didn't ask, but it's not an uncommon feeling I guess, how ever wrong it may be......maybe it takes the focus off of your issues when you focus on a kid?  but if things aren't good before a kid, I don't expect it to suddenly be better after kid

Sprinting in an athletics stadium doesn't sound that unusual

To be fair, this pretty much depends on both partners' willingness to sacrifice every aspect of their lives. I've tried to balance my personal pursuits with doing my part for the family, and its been a total shit show. I keep thinking it must be a cultural thing. Obviously having a kid requires some massive lifestyle changes, but do all Korean women expect their husbands to dedicate every waking minute to domestic activities?

I think some people are like empty vessels. They don't really have any interests outside of work, and having a kid can give them a profound sense of direction/meaning.  People like this typically pop out three or four kids in quick succession. The bigger their family gets, the more meaningful their (previously aimless) existence becomes.

My "area of expertise" is writing I guess, but I'm too lazy to actually write so I mostly stick to doing editing work on my friend's stuff. After doing some editing work on webcomics I figured I might try saving up a bit of cash and pay somebody to actually draw one of my scripts.

No, they don't but they should definitely help.....for me I know my husband will help me, but there are times when he does forget that I have a fulltime job just like him when household chores arent done.....and I wouldn't want him to think after having a baby that I'm just chilling at home.....I don't think he would think that necessarily but I am sure it would come out of his mouth occasionally (when he is angry or something)....and then after I go back to work I think he might have to make some adjustments ......that being said he loves travel and soccer, but he doesn't travel without me so, he doesn't do much outside of work and I think that is quite depressing for him, so yeah a child would give meaning...

Drums, and I'm getting back to where I used to be at guitar.
Does your wife submit to you?
