boilers (of the heating variety)
« on: July 22, 2020, 07:48:18 pm »
My wife claims we paid 800,000 to have a new boiler installed when we moved into our current apartment but i had to fork out 4 mil to get one put into our smaller house in the UK. Do any of you experts on the building trade know why it's so much more expensive than here? I'd have thought the Polish builders would have narrowed the gap a fair bit, but seemingly no.

My younger brother is an architect and building manager and he said that to fit a top-end boiler in the UK with the labour, would be 1800 quid tops.  1000 for a very good boiler and 800 for labour.  I'm assuming that you paid around 2600 quid to have it done?

He thinks that hydrogen boilers are the way to go these days cost and efficiency-wise, the same goes with hydrogen fuel cell cars.

As a fully qualified tradesman, I know a bucket load of plumbers/gas men and 1000-1500 (600-700) mates rates. Depends on what model you want, instantaneous/intelligent/remote controls and if the pipework for said option is available. Often a plumber will have to do some work on rerouting piping before the boiler can be installed.

4 mil is waaaay too much.

Coming from an electrical perspective, If I have to change a consumer unit and I need to add cabling. I need to do that work before I can connect them to the power. That't the only reason I can see the price being that high.
Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

Yeah, it's the kind of thing you'll get ripped off over if you live abroad and rely on an agency to find tradesmen and get quotes. However there are different types of boiler and different ways of installing them according to online sources. I'm guessing the one in Korea didn't include labour as we were having a load of other stuff done at the same time so it was probably included in the overall price.

Labour is cheap in Korea. But I think yours included that too. It's not like some random construction guy is allowed to do it anyways. Should be a licensed technician
We had a non-condensing, mid-range boiler installed for a little over 500k (boiler+labour). You can get a pretty good condensing one, in a 30 something pyeong apartment for around 800k.
