SMOE Work from Home Sept. 1-11
« on: September 03, 2020, 08:21:18 am »
So apparently Seoul schools are allowing teachers to work from home, with schools at 1/2 - 1/3 capacity. In my school, that means that teachers come in every other day, working from home the other days (there are only 2 people in my office right now, including me). But as far as my school knows, that doesn't include me. Is that right? Is there any documentation from SMOE that might have been missed? I know my contract is different, but if the goal is to keep people home to stop infections, I would assume that would include everyone. Just thought I'd check.

I live in Gyeonggi-do and they've rolled out a similar work from home procedure. I too have to stay at school, because (we) NETs are classified as a different type of worker, than the regular school teachers in South Korea. I'm not sure if it's because we are contract teachers or what. With that being said, the Gyeonggi-do education office has said that it is up to your school whether or not they want to allow you to work from home. Also many of us NETs don't have access to NEIS, which monitors your work from home. So I'd like to assume that SMOE is would be similar in those regards.

I do have access to NEIS though - I apply for my own vacation, all they have to do is tell me who to send it to, in what order. I think another part of the problem is that they're supposed to check in at the beginning and end of the school day in Edupine (no idea how to spell it in English), and I didn't even know that existed until yesterday. It probably wouldn't work on my Mac at home, anyway.

The first thing to say is that this is definitely not pyramid selling, OK?

This is it. My school said all teachers get 3 days but they cant be consecutive and we can't all be gone at the same time. My co-t and I said we'd come everyday because it's just easier for online lessons BUT my VP is insisting that I take the 3 days (not sure about my co-t) so yea. I think it's so unfortunate that we don't get seen as equals and have to gamble on the niceness of our co-ts/VPs

Some of us have been sent home.  I think it is work from home.  I just sign a form when I get back to school.  I had some allergies and coughed one day.  They got all paranoid and told me to stay home for a couple of days.  Anyways, I think it's like last spring where we worked from home and signed some sheet when we got back.  I don't know anything about signing into anything online though.  I never did anything online before regarding my work time.

Sounds very 1984ish whatever that is.  Some online software that watches you type on the computer to make sure you are doing something?  So much for logging into waygook or Facebook.
