Stanley Cup
« on: September 18, 2020, 02:15:35 am »
Well, well...just when I thought my Stars were going to play their Toronto card (you know...snatching defeat from the jaws of victory) while playing Colorado, they go on to make mince meat out of Vegas and are back in the Stanley Cup.

I'm just happy they are there.  Of course, I want them to be victorious but if not....it's OK, at  least for this year.  Tampa Bay seems to be the team of destiny this year.  However, I won't pull the Islanders out of the mix yet.  They may have finally found their groove against Tampa Bay with that recent overtime win.

Any thoughts?

1. Both Dallas and Tampa are further south than Jeju Island.

2. Both Texas and Florida would have allowed fans at the games. But the league has a bubble city in Canada for the series.

3. Defenseman Viktor Hedman of the Lightning is the MVP (Conn Smythe) frontrunner. Of course, they still haven't finished off NY, but they will.

4. That 20-year-old Finn Miro Heiskanen has been phenomenal. I'm happy Pavelski is doing well (the Sharks have been one of my fav teams).

5. I used to like the Minnesota North Stars. When they moved to Dallas I boycotted the team. Then when they won their first championship against my Peca & Hasek Sabres because the referee didn't call the penalty on the overtime goal... they were franchise non grata to me.

6. If they win the cup, and viewership is up due to lack of much competition most nights, on weekdays, maybe Houston or another Texas city will finally get a franchise to provide a state rivalry!

I'm a diehard Bruins fan, and it made me sick when Rask walked out on the team. I don't know if I can support them next year if they welcome that filthy stinking quitter back into the fold. He doesn't deserve to wear the black and gold.

Having said that, I always had a soft spot for the Lightning because Phil Esposito started the franchise and he was always my favourite player. The Stars should be working on their first Cup, not the 2nd. Brett Hull's skate was clearly in the crease.

Go Tampa, but Khudobin played incredible in game 1. Reminded me of how Thomas took the Bruins to the holy grail in 2011.

Wasn't there a medical emergency involving his daughter?  He would be a douche bag if he had stayed in the bubble.

I don't think there was anything out of the norm. Rumours miraculously swirled about a few things but they all seemed to be a little to timely and pat.

He's a quitter.

Well if I made what he was making, I wouldn't care what others think of running to my sick daughter.

Anyways, Lightning touched the Prince of Wales Trophy... you know what that means... lol

All tied up.

Anyway, back to Rask, he's an unrestricted free agent after the next season and he's been moaning about retiring for a couple of years now. A $7 million per season cap hit is a lot of cash that the B's could spread around elsewhere. They have two solid goalie prospects in Providence that should be brought up.

Dump Rask, keep Halak and bring in a youngster and get bigger on the wings and blueline.
