Ruth Bader Ginsburg dead at 87
« on: September 19, 2020, 09:01:11 am »
2020 just keeps the surprises coming. The timing of her passing just weeks before what is already one of the most contentious presidential elections just threw gas on the fire.

RIP.

Dunno about gas on fire analogy, as Trump supporters usually pan her and mostly Democratic party far lefters pimp her, though she is widely respected.

She is like McCain. Everyone has nice things to say, but there is a vacuum of response.

There will now be a Brett Kavanaugh nomination hoopla over the replacement. Ugh. Wished she had lived six more months.

This could be good news for Trump. Here's his previously made "just in case" list of his picks to fill a vacant seat on the SCOTUS. Lots of potential picks to appease certain segments of the voting bloc. Best of all for Trump, with Republican control of the senate, his pick is virtually assured a nomination and there is enough time to git 'er dun.

It reminds me of Howard Hughes' response when JFK was shot was to order his bagman, Bob Maheu, to buy the entire campaign.

The death of this 27-year staunch liberal of the US Supreme Court has all but assured a conservative majority on the Court for decades to come. Unclear how her death will influence the presidential election as the open seat will likely “energize” both sides of the political aisle, though you’d think it would bring out more liberals out of sheer anger as the President and Republican Senate are likely going to try to have a replacement nominated, if not confirmed, before the election.

I’m assuming you’re fairly advanced for your age here...  :-[

If they try to force a nomination through before the election then a President Biden and the new Democratic Senate Majority will just expand the Supreme Court.

What gives you that impression?

A Dem Senator has already said as such. Also, why shouldn't they? Republicans made up the Merrick Garland rule for not granting him even a hearing in an election year but if they get an opportunity then be damned with precedent. Dems need to be ruthless!

OK. The US as a democratic experiment is over.
It's up to Europe now to protect mankind.
Who's ready for another 4 years of Trump 2020!

Wasn’t even intentional. Just tired of Dems wanting to play bipartisanship when the Republicans will stab them in the back at any opportunity.

All other hypocrisy aside, remember the right wing conspiracy theories that were flying around when Scalia died? Not hearing any of that for Ginsburg.
