The US election is close and I am curious to hear voters' experiences voting from Korea.  Success stories, difficulties, etc.  I also posted some links I already posted elsewhere just to make them easier to find.  In the previous thread, they are on an old page.  Whatever your point of view, the results of the US election will have a significant impact and those of us who are US citizens can contribute by voting. Any way to circumvent problems would be helpful to mention as well.

I just voted. I received my online ballot from the county where I'm registered in California. I completed my voting online. Then, I printed all the documents and faxed them to the county recorder's office.  Easy. You can scan the documents and email if you prefer.

The process is easy and very straight forward.

If you were here or abroad the last election, you still need to check your voter registration and reapply for your absentee ballot for this election. I was not aware of this. Fortunately, I received a notice from my county regarding this issue.

I sent a letter to the US. Paid 700 won. As I was walking down the street the post office worker chased after me and shouted to come back ... then  made me do express mail. That was 24,000 won. No longer possible to do slower mail abroad?

I live in New Zealand, a modern country where fax machines are no longer used, unlike antiquated South Korea. I went around my city looking for a fax machine but they just do not exist. I used some weird online service to fax my ballot to the US county I'm registered to vote in, not sure if it worked or not.

Faxing is such a stupid method to do it. If I can send thousands of dollars between accounts online without anyone hacking my accounts or impersonating me, why the **** can't I vote online? Faxing would be way easier to commit fraud with.

We just have to put up with it for now.  I trust paper ballots way more than electronic ballots unless the electronic ones have a paper trail backing them up.  There’s are tons of stories on Ars Technica if you search for voting about how untrustworthy electronic voting machines are or just about any tech site for that matter.

Anyway, they told me my vote would take about a month to reach the US even though I sent it via EMS.  I hope I misheard that.  I asked her to repeat herself and I guess it might just take a month for EMS.

I sent my by EMS too and she told me it will take anywhere between 2 weeks to a month. I sent mine right before Chuseok. The mailing time might vary by state though.

My completed ballot sent via EMS arrived in about 2 weeks.

Deposited mine at the embassy today. As far as I'm aware, they're keeping the dropbox going after today, but can't guarantee anything arriving before the election deadlines. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
