COLOMBIAN MALE, NO DEGREE ODDS

Hi, Everyone!
I'm a 28-year-old female from the States who has in the past worked for a Hagwon in Korea. I am considering going back, and this time applying for EPIK.
My question is: My husband is from Colombia, doesn't have a degree, but speaks English more fluently than some Americans, (as well as Spanish, French, and Italian) and got an online TEFL as well.
What are his odds at being able to get in at a Hagwon within the city I am placed in with EPIK? (I understand he would not meet the criteria for EPIK, but if he's already there and can demonstrate fluency, we were hopeful he might be able to find a job in English teaching because the pay is good.)
If the answer is, "extremely unlikely," does anyone have any suggestions as to what industries he could look into?

Legally...the odds of him teaching English on an E-2 are Zero without a passport from one of the 7 countries.

He also won't be able to teach Spanish on an E-2 without a degree.

Chances of him working legally on an F-3 dependent visa...about 0.5% if certain criteria are met (e.g. you, the providing spouse, need to have invested at least $500k in the Korean economy).

Overall, not a good prospect for EFL jobs for your husband in Korea...at least legally. Whether you're willing to risk it and have him teach under the table is entirely up to both of you, as you'd both have to deal with the consequences if he gets caught.

Thank you for that a insight. What about any chances working in some other industry, like hospitality. Can he work legally at, say, a bar or a hotel? Are legal spouses of E-2 visas not allowed to hold a job at all, if not under an E-2 themselves?

There's no such thing as the spouse of an E2. They would be treated as a completely seperate entity by immigration here. He could come and stay for 6 months in your apartment and leave and come back to renew the tourist visa.

Can't imagine your boss would be pleased with him staying there for free.

Edit: there's an F-3-1 visa for dependent spouses.

You have to apply in person at immigration. Can't find any info if they can work or not. E2s can only have one job, their sponsor so I'm skeptical that the dependent can just go around banging on doors looking for employment.

F-3 can’t work but I’ve known a few who did. It’s illegal and if they had been caught it wouldnt have ended well. He can most likely apply for a dirty job but the pay is shite, about what most efl jobs start at and the hours are terrible.  He could also try coming as a student, I think they can work less than full time, but I’m not 100% sure. He could easily earn a degree in Spanish or another language and have the degree. Plus he would probably get some offers to tutor.

He must have a 4 year degree and to have gone to school since grade 7 in an English speaking country.  However, I don't think immigration checks the schooling.  Just the University.  Can he take courses or do some online courses?  Get an eventual degree?

I had a friend who taught at an international school in China even though he had a Bachelors and no teachers degree.  He was teaching here and married a Filipina woman.  He left Korea, went to China.  The school hired him and they hired her part time.  They kind of bent the rules a bit.  Korea is not so flexible this way.  If you both want to work, you may want to try another country.
