Visa run impossible. Other solutions?
« on: October 14, 2020, 12:56:35 am »
Hi,

So obviously at the moment, a visa run to Japan is out of the question. I'm wondering if there's another way to get a visa from in Korea? Have the rules changed during covid? I know for example that visa extensions were made easier during the earlier covid period. Is it also easier to apply for a visa within the country now? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Cheers

Visa runs to Japan are possible. Bring a recent covid test, and make sure your return flight is on the SAME DAY as your flight. Use Tokyo, fly out on Korea Airlines around 11am, return on Ethiopian airlines around 9pm. Most importantly: be steeled in your resolve and don't take no for an answer. You'll probably need to do 2 weeks quarantine at a Government facility, but is is possible to negotiate one's way out of that. Good luck. You are about to enter a gauntlet of chaotic bureaucracy.
Does your wife submit to you?

I would try going to the immigration office first.  I suggest just turning up (or making an appointment depending on where you are) with the paperwork you think you need.  There has been some leniency recently.  Much cheaper and easier than doing a visa run and finding out it wasn't that necessary.  I wouldn't phone the immigration helpline first as they are more likely to go by the book.  If you are pleasant at the immigration office and they like you(!) you will hopefully be OK.

But I guess it could depend on what visa you are on and whether you are wanting to extend the existing one or change the visa.

Good luck

Step one.  Go to the Immigration office and ask for a one month extension.    Gives you some extra time.
Step two.  Review your situation towards the end of that one month period.
Step three.  Consider whether going to Step one again is your best option.

Cambodia

But you'd need to co form whether the embassy there is currently open and currently issuing visas (and what the require).

Also, you'd need to leave a $3000 deposit at the airport in Cambodia in case you catch rona...the money will be used for your treatment.

I think they lowered the "deposit" to $2000.  Frankly, I don't know why anyone would trust the Cambodian government to give that back, without problems hassles.

You also need $50K in traveler's insurance....
