Trump? Biden? Who cares. The USA has already lost.
« on: November 02, 2020, 12:06:16 pm »
The USA is dead. China will rule the world as the sole superpower in the not too distant future.

This is a brilliant, fascinating, and ultimately scary and kinda depressing read. It is well worth 10 minutes of your time.

China will not be a superpower. No one like China. At the end of the day, the USA still has hope and a positive message.

Thanks for the read. I must say, I read it all, and you're a very very fast reader. lol. You can listen to the author read it if you click the video, and it will take an hour or so. (For anyone who wants to just listen to it while on the move.

It's 2020 and China can't even build a public bathroom that isn't a medieval cesspit.

Basically the USA is going the way of the USSR...because the system got hijacked by a bunch of rich guys (and gals) whose sole intention is to hoard everything, with the help of political sycophants in office who are either too corrupt or too chickenshit speak up...all at the expense of the general population. Kind of a similar deal in the UK as well.

Would be interesting to see if US regions or states split into individual countries by the end of the century...just like USSR did when it folded up. Unlikely as the republic is far more stable than anything the soviet union was...but a second civil war wouldn't be out of the picture.

He lays out the problems and militarism and the like well. But he fails to provide historical context and a clear solution.  He says reform is impossible and then says only "revolution" and "tyranny" will solve the problem.  He does not provide a clear explanation of what they mean, especially "revolution."  Vote for Biden to help lessen climate change.  ,

In an article about militarization, how can you not bring up context for changes beyond the very recent past?  When and where did the militarized economy come from?  When did the emphasis on cultural values start?  Why are US elections built around cultural issues and focus on overhypered foreign threats to the exclusion of economic issues?  Some of the authors he cites including Chomsky and Taibbi do a much better job of providing context, particularly Chomsky. It was an interesting read, but  some of the language was a bit off-putting to me and there was little talk about the origins of the problems he identifies.

Vote for Biden to bring us back to the status quo on climate change as opposed to accelerating the pace of destruction.  Yes, it's really a vote against Trump for my point of view.  Take a day to vote for one of the candidates picked for us, and then do whatever you think your cause needs.  In the long-term things are grim, but to address long-term problems, the author needs to provide long-term historical context for the problems. This just goes back a few decades.  At minimum, the Second World War, the Cold War, and the subsequent changes in the US would be a good place to start.

The universe has over a billion galaxies each with over a billion stars (but that is a somewhat graspable/ intelligible number).

To think there is no life OUT THERE in the expanse of space is absurd as to think there IS life out there but it manages to find its way HERE (THEN HIDES?).

Not if they have wormhole technology and are intent on building an imperialist empire spanning at least a billion galaxies.

Things continue until they don't continue anymore.

Trump is more than a symptom however. He's the personification of everything that's wrong about America. Everyone's just out to make a buck by hook and by crook and the easier the better.  Material possession is the nation's obsession.

Reform is possible, and I wouldn't bet against it although Buffett seems to be or is at least hedging his bets. People have been saying the US was in decline for decades, maybe a century. Heck, even Jack LaLanne was saying we were fat and lazy on his old black and white TV show.

Anyone poo-poohing China, however, is just being foolish.

You are right about me mentioning China, but I've been saying that for a long time. I see what's happening in the USA and what is happening in my own adopted country. The USA is ripping apart at the seams and China is clearly buying the 3rd world by lending insane amounts of money and building massive infrastructure and when payment is due, they simply exchange it for power, land or control.

China:

- has a large air force base in Cambodia
- owns Sihanoukville
- owns the belt and road initiative which runs to Vientiane from Kunming
- owns 51% of Laos' electrical grid which is completely supplied by hydro-electric power from dams thus giving China control of Laos' water
- owns the main highway system in Laos, a toll road with money going back to China
- is expanding the belt and road initiative into Thailand
- controls the northern border with Laos with a town called Boten where only Yuan is accepted
- is building atolls throughout the South China Sea and putting small, but occupied, military posts on them and declaring it to be Chinese territorial waters in total contradiction to the International Maritime Court in The Hague
- is in dispute over useless rocks well within the waters of Vietnam and The Philippines a la Dokdo
- has a long term vision which is "How will this benefit our great grandchildren?" as opposed to the rest of SE Asia which has a long term vision of "What's for dinner?" and the USA which has a long term vision of "Here's our plan for the next 4 years." which of course gets torn asunder when the new guy gets elected
- is expected to exceed the USA in power by 2030 in SE Asia
- is rapidly building aircraft carriers with the first home-built one having finished sea trials already

No sir, anyone who doesn't see what's happening or doesn't think China is heading for the top of the hill militarily is willfully or woefully blind. They have an economic and military dagger right through the heart of SE Asia from their border to the south coast of Cambodia.

I am certain you've all heard of divide and conquer. I don't like what's happening and the USA could stop it if they could get their collective heads out of their asses. There will be a time in the near future when it will be too late and China will supplant the USA as the world's superpower. Much of the problem lies with democracy. The truth hurts. When everyone's opinion matters compared to the government does whatever it wants and to heck with the people's opinion, only one can come out on top. I fear it is China's time. No country has ever rode the crest forever.

Rant done.......

Not to mention China's aquisition of rare valuable natural resources in Africa, some of them crucial to high-tech equipment.

Not to mention the fact that China is the world's biggest (domestic and international) miner and producer of rare earth metals...which are essential for virtually all tech.

Plus they have access to and most probably control the trillions of dollars' worth of rare earths underneath NK mountains as well.

Yes! China + rare earth metals + Africa....

They are also huge investors in oil. The Alberta tar sands for example. The 2nd or 3rd largest oil deposit on earth.

If rare earth metals were really so integral to being a super power, the US could just mine their own plentiful deposits.
