Other than a brief mention of Regina it doesn't sound like you have any interest in moving to Saskatchewan. Seem much more interested in Mexico. I could certainly see myself living in Montreal. Toronto is my go to, but I like Montreal. Zero interest in living outside of those two places, though. When it comes to Canada I know what parts of the country I could do long term. Maybe Calgary. But in B.C. you would have to put up with people from B.C. They always seem to have this misplaced attitude that they're chilled and hip and the rest of Canada envies them. The first time I went to Vancouver I was amazed they still had punks with mohawks on the street and how dull the place was. Outside of the city that was East Hastings at least. Never seen a street like that in Canada. I grew up in Toronto, went to school in Montreal and I was totally unprepared for how dumpy and slummy that part of Vancouver was. And I know it's only gotten worse. This was in the nineties.
But aren't these places expensive to live? (Unless you already have property there.)
Saskatchewan is probably one of the least preferred places to live in Canada. Unless your a farmer it has very little to offer. No mountains, no ocean, no culture, no cuisine, no multicultural vibrancy, no nice climate.
people in Toronto, many of which want to be Americans.
Mind elaborating on that one?
Torontonians desperately want to be accepted by Americans. They look down on other Canadian cities while comparing themselves to "New York". They won't support the CFL because its Canadian. Many have not been west of Sudbury in their entire lives. It's no surprise that Toronto is so despised by the rest of Canada.
I second CO2 on this one.
a) I find that other cities all shit on Toronto while people in TO rarely think of them at all. b) Football is not popular, generally, in Canada. c) I've been to Elliot Lake and seen nothing between that and Calgary. d) "It's no surprise that Toronto is so despised by the rest of Canada." Yup, like I said in a) most Torontonians aren't wringing their hands worrying about what people in Sarnia are doing.
Toronto once had a hard-on for the NFL back when they were flirting with the Bills.
I had a friend from Nova Scotia who spent a summer in the GTA. When he came back, he said it was like an extension of the US. Highways criss crossing everywhere, large crowds, power lines and traffic everywhere, even in the countryside. This was almost 20 years ago mind you.
