I bought a cat tree. It's wrapped up still in clear wrap from the store and in the corner of my hagwon classroom as a conversation piece this week. I'm inviting a friend over for Christmas dinner and while I cook and we chat the cats can discover and play in the thing, my guest and i interacting with them while they do so.

Sounds tough, but just remember, it could be worse.  At least you have a home to be out of the cold.

In Japan, they don't have turkey dinner.  But many people there do go to KFC apparently.  I heard this a few years ago.  So, I usually go to KFC for chicken on Christmas Eve or Day.  Saving money and avoiding corona will make me keep a low profile.  So, not much happening over Christmas.

January, one of my new schools that got added to my list second semester goes all the way through January.  Just one day a week to disrupt vacation.  But I am staying in Korea so no biggie.  But if this happens the following year, then the local ed office and I are going to have words as I need to travel back home by then.

So, I will take 3 or 4 days in January and most of the rest in the last 3 weeks of Feb.  Will prob boycott Seoul this year due to corona.  Just stay close to home.

Nothing too official, just making myself some Christmas-y food plus some nice hot chocolate, and watching one or three Christmas movies. Will most likely end up doing a Secret Santa thing with some friends, may possibly go on an early morning Christmas hike to start off my day so that I can really enjoy that hot chocolate right after.

Scrooged and A Christmas Story are at the top of my watch list.

By the way, there was a charity drive to buy gifts for kids with struggling single mothers last year. Is there one this year?

Blue Dragon are also campaigning for Christmas donations. They are fantastic charity based in Vietnam. They help to house homeless children and rescue trafficking victims.  The stories on the founders blog are absolutely heart breaking. The charity does such a wonderful job helping them.

Scrooged
I've never seen that movie, but I have always liked the cover of Put a Little Love in Your Heart by Annie Lennox and Al Green.

I have watched Scrooged about 15-18 times over the years (usually during the holiday season).

I loved the homage to Mae West with the "Are you glad to see me or is that a shotgun in your pocket?" :)

But... I have to admit two things:

1. Groundhog Day is my fav Bill Murray film; and...

2. Nicolas Cage's The Family Man is the only non-animated production (nothing tops Charlie Brown or Rudolph for Xmas videos? Er, ... i guess "moving pictures" would be most accurate) I have seen almost as often, due to the holiday premise relevance.

For future reference, can you donate money to some of these groups?  (I assume the orphanages know which gifts the kids would like best?)  Perhaps, next year, make a donation?

Yes most of the gifts the children ask for and then they have volunteers shopping. I just send them money.

Thanks good to know.  I think all of us can donate a little bit of money each year.

Absolutely! KUFMA also accepts donations and they are a great organization! Money and new/used baby items etc.

Yeah, have to be satisfied with just sending donations, which I do anyway, but I like to do a personalized thing, too, and I'm bummed I missed out on my chance this year, lol.

Anyway, I have high-quality stuffed animals and plushies that I'm trying to get rid of. I don't want to sell them, I just want to give them to a good home. They're basically in the same condition that I bought them in, I haven't even removed the tags.

I've been thinking about posting them in a mom group or something, but do you think KUFMA or an orphanage would take them?

Yeah probably. You can take pictures and send them to the coordinator on the fb group.

This year has sucked. 2020 has been a constant upheaval and I am delighted to see it going away. Vaccines are out and people have started receiving the Pfizer one with the Moderna one coming soon. I hope they work and end the shitshow this year has been.

Tomorrow is the Christmas party at school and then I'm off till January 4th. This Sunday me and a friend are hopping on our bikes and heading into the jungle. No plans other than be back in time for work. Leave civilisation behind.

My bike will be put through its paces over the next 2 weeks. I am so looking forward to just getting away with no plans at all.

I hope everybody has an enjoyable break.

Don't you have to quarantine for 2 weeks when coming back at your own expense?
