Cant think of anything else right now, but the drivel I watched yesterday piqued my interest in the topic. FYI, I'm focusing on movies that capture or epitomize the decade they were released and have
either aged/not aged well.

Have NOT:

"What Women Want" - My wife was interested in watching this and we both gave it a look. I vaguely remember it from my teens. Everything from the music, the clothes the dialogue and the entire premise just screamed dated and cringe. Whoever wrote this drivel was trying
to convince me that a "man's man" is a dude who locks himself in his apartment and gyrates to Frank Sinatra. I'm guessing even the gayest of dudes will cringe at Mel's radical fayness during this scene and, of course, those ill-fitting suits in varying shades of the same pastel.

"American Pie" - Watched this a few months ago for fun. We were all teenagers once, don't judge. I couldn't believe how badly it aged, I'm not really for militant PC, but even to me, this movie is completely unwatchable.

Have:

"Breakfast Club" - Not only has this movie aged well, but it's still relevant to this day.

"The Craft"- A few scenes here and there (particularly with the 30yr old actors portraying douchey HS jocks) were just laughable, but overall, it's a really entertaining movie.

Citizen Kane (1941) I first saw in 2005, thinking it would be ho-hum, a widely-acclaimed but dated relic. ... I WAS BLOWN AWAY! It was awesome. I've watched it twice more since. I understand how some say it is the greatest film ever. It has aged very well.

Caddyshack (1980) has aged poorly. I loved it when it was first released (I was in 6th grade). Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase. But I tried to re-watch it two years ago and was aghast at how unfunny it was.

2001 A Space Odyssey aged extremely well

American Beauty aged poorly. It's a good movie, but it just didn't age well at all

Aged well....ageless in fact: True Grit with John Wayne

Aged poorly: Up in Smoke - Cheech and Chong

The Princess Bride is still a great watch. It was also due for a remake - a heartfelt thank you to covid for quashing that one.

they were going to REMAKE The Princess Bride????? Why?? just. WHYYYYYYYYY? it really needs to be left alone.

Sony floated the idea but the reception was so negative I guess they dropped it. Anyways speaking of leaving things alone, Disney needs to call it quits with all this live-action nonsense

Basically, anything Stanley Kubrick has done is amazing and can't be replicated.

Hitchcock.
Burton.

Timeless. 100 years from now their films will still be watched.

I just watched Heat again and it doesn't age well....perhaps the soundtrack....or some of the characters.../I still love it nevertheless

All things Val Kilmer had a limited shelf life.

Not true. The MacGyver movie spoof "MacGruber" is hilarious and Kilmer's role as arch villian Dieter Von Cunth is perfect. It's had me laughing till I had tears many times.

MacGruber is a sold 8.5 out of ten for me, I'm not even joking. That movie is amazing.

True Grit was one of those rare cases where the remake went well.

Yes it did. John Wayne is my favourite actor of all time and True Grit is # one of my 3 favourite movies. The other 2 being "Scarface" with Pacino and Amadeus.

I had very very low hopes of the remake of True Grit, but it was amazing.
