I picked Itaewon because I loved Itaewon, but it's been dead to me since 2017 when RMT, Seoul Pub, and Taco Bell all left within a couple of months. Itaewon 2006-2011 was my jam.

That Taco Bell did not last for long.  Although, I was excited to go there when it opened, it did remind me that Taco Bell is pretty mediocre food.  Wouldn't stop me from hitting it up when there was one in Anyang or still hitting the other two I know about for a quick bite, but there is so much better in Itaewon.  RMT; staff with Canadian waitstaff attitude and shitty food.  Good riddance.

Ever since Taco Bell stopped serving Dr. Pepper and changed their tortilla chips they have gone downhill. For the pricepoint Taco Amigo or Coreanos or ElPino123 are much better.

There was a taco bell near prudential building Gangnam and also one near the yellow line where it meets line 7?  Something like that.  I haven't been to Seoul since Jan 2020.  Also last time I went there, Itaewon was looking dead just before Corona was famous.  I can't imagine it now.  Even the ladies of the hour were all gone.  I think a couple of trans women took over or something.  I wasn't interested in either but at least it was some interesting character.  Either way, place sucked except for the Indian food buffet on the hill.  (Hope that's still there. I loved eating there and chatting to a few folks including the Iranian guy who thought his government needed to change.)   Foreign food mart is good though coupang has become my go to lately.  (Well there and the basement food mart at Shinsegye Myeongdong.)

He's interested in the women that will pay him.

Just kidding hangook.  I also find Shinsegae supermarkets the best out of the big department stores for foreign food selection.  If you're speaking of the Indian food buffet at the aptly named Foreign Restaurant on the way to the Foreign Food Mart, the last time I went in there a couple of years back they had scaled back the selection a lot and kept the price the same so I didn't stay and haven't returned.

The old street stalls that all got run off in 2012-ish were awesome, but once they were gone Taco Bell was easily the best drunk food place left. Yeah better restaurants in Itaewon, of course, t's not a place I'd take a date or have as the main meal on a big night out, but it did add to Itaewon.

RMT had its critics, fair enough. For me it was the first bar I ever went to in Itaewon and was a through line for my time in Korea. Did a bunch of comedy shows there, saw a bunch of bands in the old upstairs, and did trivia there most weeks during its last 3 or 4 years.

The buffet closed due coronavirus. Couldn't find a single buffet in Itaweon. But the Indian restaurant is still open, just not the buffet. Gotta order off a menu. (More expensive.)

I enjoyed the surprise COVID-19 tests for all foreigners right before an election.

Cleaned up the thread a little bit, as it was wandering off topic.

When I lived there, and coming from a metropolitan city (Toronto),

1) safety: you could walk in any big city in any area at night and you'd be okay (girls may be a diff story, though); no gun crime
2) no tipping and consistently decent service
3) get a meal for $5 (not sure about now, though)
3) good and cheap infrastrcture (cabs; subway; KTX; punctuality; etc)
4) girls
5) no last call
