As a woman, I love the general feeling of safety. I'm going to miss that when I go back home.

- having housing paid for, without a big hit to your income. The vast majority of NETs will thus make more money in Korea than they would back home while paying increasingly exorbitant rent. No, you weren't ever going to be a high-income executive back home, otherwise you wouldn't be slumming in Korea!!!

- being able to take cheap taxis everywhere.

- KTX being relatively cheap. Always loved being able to easily cancel and reschedule tickets without any hassle.

- the subways. The Seoul subway in particular is really clean and easy to use.

- leaving and going back home and seeing blue skies every day!

Also:

- Public transit in general. It's ubiquitous and cheap, and usually pretty hassle free.
- Direct bank transfers make paying bills etc a snap.
- Relatively low cost of living makes it pretty easy to save money without having to sacrifice too much in the way of lifestyle.
- Lack of petty theft, vandalism, and general safety is always a good thing!

Glad someone said it. Korea may have low violent crime, but their sex crimes are just as high as anywhere else.

Yeah, I definitely still keep my wits about me when I go out. I'm typically quite wary of everyone around me to begin with, and am quite careful not to put myself in situations that are a bit more prone to danger.  Like you said though, there are still creeps walking about.

Forgot to mention South Korea's one shining gift to modern civilization: the button at your table at bars and restaurants that you can push to call a waiter so you can get more beer/kimchi/kalbi/etc.

There are some nice "nature areas" in Korea but they're usually nothing to write home about. And they're usually really crowded, and just as polluted as anywhere else in Korea. It's really nice though when you find a "secret" local river or mountain that never gets crowds. Don't tell anyone!

That's very true.

Being an optimist, I can't help finding one upside in the way things are back home. With the police being so lazy and incompetent and the courts being so backlogged, in SA, most people accept that you're really not going to get anywhere trying to sue someone for getting into a little scuffle over a parking spot or something where neither of you sustained much more than a slap and a scuffed elbow.

People are a bit more careful of trying to act tough as they know it's very likely they'll have to back it up.

In Korea, assholes know they can push their behaviour as far as possible and nobody will put them in their place as the ridiculously litigious culture means you can sue someone for slapping their hand out your face. Then it turns into this ridiculous spectacle of pulling a 'Neymar', going to the hospital etc.

Another thing...no goddamn Daylight Savings!!! Hate it so much. Makes winters needlessly miserable, and gives you extra sunlight in summer when you don't really need it. Here in New Zealand it's still bright out at 10pm in the summer. Unnecessary.
