World Happiness Index 2021
« on: March 20, 2021, 09:48:04 am »

South Korea hovers around average for happiness.  And, of course,
the list is basically a group of WASP countries. I think Koreans make
life shitty for themselves.  If you were to transplant the population
of Finland to Korea and the population of Korea to Finland, I am
pretty sure Finland would would suddenly plummet and Korea
would be near the top.  Korea has stupid policies created by
out-of-touch old men.

Interestingly, some very poor countries (ex. The Philippines) with
seemingly huge problems are happier than Korea.

How did China make the top 20? The communist government submitted altered (or otherwise inaccurate) data?

Why wouldn't it?

Why wouldn’t it?

Gender imbalance. More men born than women. (A similar thing happened in India, South Korea, and Vietnam.)

Horribly polluted air. Worse than Vietnam and Korea.

A dictatorial government which censors the Internet, making it slow. Chinese people dream of moving to the US, even the rich ones, because they know their wealth could be seized.

Wow, racism, prejudice and bigotry seem to have reached new levels in 2021.

What's the first thing a high-ranking CCP does? Buys property in a Western country and sends his family to live there and set things up for him to jump ship. What's wrong with China?
Who's risking their lives and thinking up of every scheme in the book to get a US citizenship?
Chinese people would love a US citizenship as would any other person from a 3rd world country, myself included.

China's rankings are about as accurate as any other data coming out of that CCP rathole.

Be a contrarian all you want, facts don't care.

The last four years and especially the shameful events of January 6th, 2021 have
vividly shown the rest of the world exactly the kind of country the US is and what
kind of people inhabit it.  The assertion that every Chinese citizen wants to put
their lives at risk and move to such a place is utterly ridiculous.

Biden's president. Trump's approval rating was never that high. He lost the popular vote twice. The people who stormed the capital were arrested and put in jail. And they are a small minority of Americans. What did the U.S. do lately? Invented a vaccine that put an end to the pandemic. Suck on that, America hater.

Okay, you have a point. If I was perhaps an Ethiopian living in absolute
poverty and being hunted down by ISIS or Al-Shabaab, I might begrudgingly
accept refuge in a place like the US.

But it would be way down on my list for sanctuaries.  Why would I choose a
country with no universal healthcare? A country awash in guns with the highest
incarceration rate in the world? A country that hunts down and exterminates
Asians. A country with more hate groups and psychotic militias than most
people nowadays can count? A country where the police drive armored
vehicles and kill innocent civilians with impunity?

I would choose just about any European country before I ever make the
mistake of coming to the good old USA.

Police don’t kill citizens with impunity. If they kill a citizen wrongly they are thrown in jail and the victim’s family gets millions. Doesn’t happen often.

Not many are incarcerated. Way less than 1% and falling. Keeping psychopaths out of the general population keeps the public safe.

The US has a low crime rate which is dropping.

You think it’s a horrible place because of some uncommon things happening. (Which is unavoidable with such a large population.)

But most people in the USA are safe and happy. Which is why it got a happiness ranking above your beloved UK and Canada. (Which also ranked high.)

No universal healthcare means shorter wait times, which means higher survival rates. The way to get healthcare is to be covered by one’s employer which happens when one gets a decent job. Or be an entrepreneur and buy your own coverage. This American healthcare is superior to universal healthcare in commonwealth countries. (For the unsuccessful in life, universal health coverage is a better deal I guess ... but poor people in America get free health coverage on account of being poor, so I dunno.)

I reiterate, as a South African with all my democratic freedoms and love for my country (particularly the scenery of Cape Town), I'd still take a US citizenship.
My only worry is the ridiculous healthcare, but you know what, it's still worth it. Your capital got stormed and you've got protests, so what? When your ruling party
is a bunch of immoral thieves and the majority of the populous will keep voting them in power for at least another 50yrs then you can knock on my door.

You can say "utterly ridiculous" all you like, but the fact remains that Chinese people are still taking every conceivable avenue, legal or not, to get US citizenship
or at least live and work there as long as possible. When Americans and Canadians are swarming for Chinese citizenship then I'll listen to what you have to say.

I reiterate again, facts, figures and reality couldn't care less about your emotional investment into such a silly argument.

Have you lived or ploughed your livelihood in South Africa? Do you have the faintest idea what you're talking about?
The absolute arrogance to believe you're the judge of these things.

Dude, no disrespect, but piss off.

A country that hunts down and exterminates
Asians.

When did that happen? Prostitutes died and some happened to be Asian. A rare, uncommon event. Overall, Asians in the USA are very successful. Earning more than others and highly unlikely to ever be incarcerated. Why? Harder working and less likely to commit crimes.

Those wanting to leave their country want to go to the USA as their first choice, and by a very wide margin. Multiple surveys have confirmed this. (People in China also chose the United States as their top pick.)

Did you know 92% of Americans have health insurance coverage?

With hard work and dedication, you too can break into that 92%.

Rich people from around the world fly to the United States to be treated there. Why? Best medical technology / best hospitals / best doctors / best treatment money can buy. That’s what the US has that other countries don’t.
