Debt
« on: April 07, 2021, 02:45:36 pm »
Does anyone know about Korean debt collections?

Like, let's say my husband has a lot of debt and I am still married to him, but the debt was taken out before marriage, if banks could come after my money and accounts?

Hmmm, that's a legal question so I think these FB should be able to help. I'd say it comes down to the particular contract he signed for said loan. If I were to guess I'd say in most cases you wouldn't be liable.

Korea doesn't allow joint bank accounts so they are not going to raid yours.

Anyway safe in the assumption that you are a foreign scumbag they'd never connect the 2 of you anyway.

Isn't that one of the reasons why people kill themselves here? That their debt (in their name) can't be taken on by other family members?

would hope so in this instance......my name is connected to him though cause I cant even go change my address without him coming with me.....because they wont allow my address to be different than his and when he changed his address to his mom's even though we don't live there...they just changed mine too.....

now he wants to send his salary to my accounts cause his are frozen .....it's comical at this point

It's been awhile, but last I heard from you on here hadn't you come to your senses and left this man/child and gone and got your own place?  By the way, in case I missed where you two reconciled, all the best!

I still plan to leave, trying to align it with the end of my contract....it takes a bit of time anyway but now that he is in such a financial mess I'm hoping he will just let me get on with the process instead of paying a lawyer to do things.......cause I basically have to prove he made the marriage fail 100% to have it granted and that's with a lawyer......he wont agree to a mutual divorce so....

I'm not sure about the Korean laws regarding this, but I believe inheritance can be refused. The positive and the negative too. So there is no need to worry about debt in that case.

Of course you have to take the good with the bad.  If you accept someone's assets as inheritance, then you are also responsible to cover that person's debts as well. But if you say ''no thanks'' to the whole package, then it's not your responsibility.
