I was in Ko Lanta for a few days before jumping off to some of the smaller islands a couple years ago. I first got mauled by mosquitos and leeches, which is fair play: totally par for the course. I then got mauled by a pack of jellyfish, which was also interesting, but in a much less pleasant way. They didn't even have anti-histamines there to deal with the swelling, so I walked around like a zombie that had tripped into a threshing machine for quite a while. Got some nifty photos though!

I have a similar story about Moose Jaw, actually, except that instead of jellyfish it was black flies...

Ko Lanta was fairy undeveloped when I was there over twenty years ago.  It was nice and laid back.  Probably been built up since then.  I know a bridge was built connecting the two main islands.  I believe this was to facilitate the shipping of shin ramyeon, regular and black.
