Just curious.  Is SMOE using recruiters now?  No EPIK interview?  Apply direct?

Well, that's not a SMOE/ETIS contract.  Housing allowance is 4k and vacation is 26 days.

But some schools do hire separately.

It matches all the terms and is a SMOE contract doesn't it?  Not applying just curious.

??  SMOE housing allowance is 500k and the pay is the same as SMOE based on my past research.  Just found it interesting they use recruiters again.  Some provinces use to do that and a couple still do, but many now strictly go through the EPIK crapshoot which allows little flexibility from what I hear or have heard.  I originally came through a recruiter for public.

This does seem to be the SMOE contract. From what I understand, the vacation days are technically listed as 21 days, and then there's an extra 5 days specifically to use for discretionary holidays, technically making the total 26. And then if you renew, you get 5 bonus vacation days, making your total 31. And for SMOE, if the school gets your apartment their allowance is 700k and if you get your own place, you're given an allowance of 500k, so it all lines up. This is my first time seeing SMOE hire direct though, I've only ever seen GEPIK do this.

Only if my contract is full of typos.  It specifically states 26 days, for example.

I have to make one correction though.  I was looking at my old contract last night, but I have been through the new contract for August this year.  It also says 26 day, but housing allowance is up to 500k.  There is nothing in the contract about a top amount of 700k, because then people might definitely would say "Hey, you're spending more on so-and-so's pad than on mine.  I want the whole 700 too!"  But that is what the schools get "up to".  I have heard of schools supplementing this amount on their own.

And the renewal section now says "a one week paid leave", it used to specify consecutive days, but this year it doesn't--not sure if that means anything ...

Nope, unless my contract is full of typos.  It specifically states 26 days, for example.

Guess I misunderstood the way my SMOE friends described it. It is 26 days, but the way they described it made it sound like the discretionary days were separate. The 26 days vacation is relatively new though, no? Within the last two or three years? Maybe they're using an old contract description lol

Yeah, two years, I think.  It's just that five days were "tacked on" to cover the discretionary days, but they're still in the lump sum.
