You already are being compensated. So why not give a gift to others? Its a matter of efficiency. You know how globalization made the world a better place through specialization and exchange of ideas? Same type of deal here. The wheel wont have to keep being reinvented and made. We can save other people time.
Tell us about the other sites. Not many as a percentage of teachers are uploading to other sites either from what Ive seen. Those downloading but not uploading far exceed those who do both.If more people contributed- anywhere- the available materials would become better.
At the middle school level, Im not seeing loads of good materials, at least for the books Im using. If more than a very small number contributed on all levels, wed have way better stuff. Remember, there are thousands of public school teachers. Past and present, SO many. How many uploaders? Comparatively few. A very small percentage.
Also want to add that while you might struggle finding content for your own books, many of the books for certain grade levels are incredibly similar, enough so that you can just adapt any content you find for them to fit your own book lessons. That's what I had to do my first year. The books my own school was using weren't popular, so it was really difficult finding content tailored specifically for them. I ended up just looking around at content made for other books, and adapted them. My original ppts were very much a Frankenstein hodge podge of several different ppts I'd found here and there, until I learned my own way around Microsoft Office enough to start making my own crap.
Yeah, sometimes I find materials that are "my" book specific and I don't need to change things (although if my students ever see Mr. C walking around they might start thinking "How do I know that guy?") but often it's taking the template for activities someone else with loads better ppt skills made and and adapting it to my lessons.
I don't have paypal or a credit card so I can't pay waygook for their content subscription.
